Is NTC a respectable grading service?

After being a fly on the wall reading threads on here, I've been very weary of buying any slabs that aren't PCGS. I know PCI and ACG are bad, but what about NTC? Since we're on the subject how about ANACS?

I'd be very careful about buying a coin in an NTC slab.

A lot of people like ANACS and think that they are a respectable grading service. I'm one of them.

Keep in mind that even PCGS and NGC make mistakes sometimes. If you know how to grade, how to spot originality, and how to spot artificial toning, then it won't really matter what holder the coin is in. However, since it's often hard to do that from pictures, I'd be just as cautious about purchasing a coin in an NTC, PCI, or ACG slab online as I would purchasing a raw coin.
  • Thanks for your insights guys, I wasn't aware of NGC.
  • I'm sure that David Hall is happy that you are not aware of NGC!! image

You can buy a coin in an NTC slab if you like the coin; just be aware that
the grade on the slab is worthless! Buy the coin, not the slab.

NTC is like a Capital Plastics holder but without the personality.

-Like a blind date and the first thing you notice is the red fingernail polish she uses is chipped and her thong is showing when he leans over to pick up the sparkly lipstick she just dropped.

Fun to play with but tough to take seriously.

ANACS is very underrated. Forget NTC.
    All glory is fleeting.
  • MOC - I assume since SEGS isn't mentioned you would lump that in that last section of number 3.?
  • actually i think ngc is the most accurate grading company...pcgs purposely undergrades coins so that you will re submit them and pay for grading fees....then all their stock options will go up from increased revenues and profits ( they are a public company you know)....you really dont hink they are going to give you a 5,000 up grade for 50 dollars do you........well thats the way i see it

i have sent the same antietam to ngs 10 times over the last 2 years..it came back 67-67-67-67-66-67-67-67-67-67

i also sent the same coin to pcgs and it came back 64-65-66-67

    obviously i think its a 68
my goal is to find the monsters and i go where they are but i sometimes miss some.... so if you have any and want to sell IM THE BUYER FOR THEM!!!

NTC is headquartered in Florida, where I live, and they make a presence at shows and there are alot of their slabs that pollute and infest the show circuit. They are on par with Accugrade. I would stay away from them like the Black Plague. Not only is their holder fragile and given to breaking and cracking open , but the grading is exceedingly loose with regards to all series and gold in particular has been a challenge for them. Here are the ratings once again.

    1. PCGS
    NGC
    ANACS
    ICG
    PCI
    ACG/NTC/TRUGRADE/ and other vermin.
  • NTC = ACG with a green label. Their name says it all "Nu-mistrust"
  • Forget all others!!! PCGS all the way!!!!!!!!

That's true ONLY if you collect moderns. For other coins, NGC and ANACS should also be on your list of possibilities.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Hey Bill...... I was just being sarcastic.... Perhaps you don't remember "Fanofmoderns", who alot of folks thought he was HRH in drag! Because he was always promoting nothing but PCGS graded coins!image
