Yeah, a little big. Although I think they would do better to have color inserts to match the coin color better. Like black for gold coins and maybe blue or red for silver.
What if the coins rotate in there? What if one or two or x number develop less than appealing eye appeal? how do you classify the coins in the "set" program when they have 1 grade? What if 1 grades less than the others? Too many things can go wrong. Good idea, but I like the single slab myself.
John (hamiltonjh), I would agree with the point that if one coin goes bad you're screwed. However, they all have to grade the same before they're given a single grade, and if you've ever cracked open a new PCGS slab, you would see that there is a rubber insert which holds the coin in place so they don't rotate.

Thanks Steve...I did not know they had a rubber thingy to keep them from rotating. I'm just showing my ignorance.
I figured they're all 1 grade...thats why they're slabbed together in a single graded slab...wow...redundant....but, if one looses eyeappeal or gets spots or toning or....whatever...it has the potential to change it's grade...right? I could be and probably am wrong. I'm still wet behind the ears when it comes to coin collecting.
And the registry with PCGS...as of now, isnt it limited to a TYPE of coin? IE: $5 gold, quarter types...dime types etc? If there is a slab with 5 coins, same...uhoh...type....but different denominations, then....how to include that in REGISTRY?
Hmmm...I don't like the one grade limitation. I'd prefer slabbing coins of your choice, 4 grades, and a place for a "Set Title" which you pay for to designate.

In theory... but they do rotate quite frequently. With a single coin, you can smack the corner of the slab with a stick until it rotates around in place. It works but sometimes takes a long time and is a generally maddening process.
To try to get all four to rotate back correctly that way would make you rubber-room material.
I guess they are okay, but I would rather see them graded in the Mint Holders if they are going to group them all together.
NCG puts a band on GSA and Ike Dollars, I would like to see a band with grades on the mint holder rather than create a new holder. (My feelings are the same for the multi NGC, too.)
I suppose if there is a market for them, it must make good business sense.

I give the nod to boys across the street on this one. The white slab makes for a much nicer presentation. But I'll stick with the good ol' single coin slab for awhile. Those big suckers won't fit in my little blue boxes.
I don't think PCGS should have given in to the temptation to copy what NGC is doing. I would have let NGC do their thing, and not look like copycats. Next we'll see the PCGS star designation? Come on, PCGS is supposed to be the leaders, not the followers. Come up with something different!
Overall, I think this is a fairly good idea. This was obviously done as a response to NGC. However, the earlier suggestion that they slab the set "in place" in the original government packaging is a much better idea.

I hate it when you see my post before I can edit the spelling.

Again...just asking.
For example....Carson City DMPL Set

1883-CC MS66
etc...
Too difficult to implement I suppose.
