First Flight: The US Mint has a very unhappy person here.

I ordered some First Flight coins on Oct 19. The web site stated that it was excpected to be shipped Oct 20. After 3 weeks and no coins, it was changed to Nov. 21. NOW, it says Dec 1st!! This sucks.

My gold and halves arrived lookign good. My dollars looked like I got a conglomeration of other's rejects. I returned all the dollars and am waiting for replacements. All were MS.

Way back in Aug or Sep. I waited until all 3 things I wanted were released--silver proof sets, silver proof eagle, and the Cent of Flt. Only one shipping charge for what has arrived in 4 different orders.

As of last Friday, the US Mint Kiosk only had the gold proof and gold unc, nothing else. They guy there said that he was not sure if they would ever get any silver or clad coins.

Not what I wanted to hear. I have been waiting as well. I do not what to hear that they don"t or won"t fill orders that they said would take place. For Christ sake, Its the mint.

OK so I have a shadow box and a few other items all ready for a wall display.

I ordered mine on 09/13/03 and have been told the same dates and changes that Tootawl has. How can they offer them if they KNOW they cannot deliver? I guess if its the only game in town we must play by their rules.

You can look at it on the bright side, if you care to! Imagine this...There's too many orders for the minty to fulfill; therefore, they may need to get the cogs turnin' and punch out more. Just think, you may just get yer hands on some of the first strikes of a secondary batch; wherein, if you submit them, they must come back a 70. Interesting concept and the possibility is high, yet, the probability is LOW!...

Or will they do the secondary run with whatever they can find, purchase in a hurry to meet demand and turn out poor coins. I think they should have stuck to their guns and said thats all they were going to make. Make me feel like the mint is like every other huckster out there

Bummer......coins are not an item I can stand waiting for. The good news though is that the First Flight Commems are one of the better in the series and should make a nice addition to any collection. Also, the mint does not charge your Credit Card until they actually ship. So go buy yourself some other coins with the money you thought you already spent on these. That should ease the wait.

Yeah Fatman thats what I tend to do. But my lady asks sometimes am I in the "coin of the week club" cause there is always some coin showing up in the mail.

But she did get into Bust Halves and want a Half dimes as well. So she has the bug as bad as me.

I just checked the US Mint website. Estimated arrival: December 22. Good thing I didn't buy any of these for Christmas gifts. I didn't notice anyone in Baltimore having any. If they did, I missed them.

Mine finished coming in 2 weeks ago.

I have a few of the $1 uncs and a proof or two and I got the halves more than a month+ ago.

I just put them all in the safety deposit box and forgot about them.

What upset me on it was not only the length to get it, but also that I held off on my silver proof sets for a couple days until I could order it all together....so, I missed out by 1 day on the error COA for the silver proof sets

Its a good thing your not waiting on the Wildlife Medals. I called the Mint this week and was told the Elk would be ready for shipment in January and the Duck in late January or February. They have change the backorder date twice. I think I ordered these in June when they first allow subscription orders.

I finally got my last one about a week ago.

Mine were all shipped way after the original expected ship dates and I ended up getting them piecemeal...one at a time.

The only one I have been dissappointed with is the last one I got, the half dollar proof. It appears that some moisture may have gotten into the holder and there are some cloudy "spots" on the reverse.

Don't have a picture of it right now. I'll see if I can get a good scan of it this evening.

(the red circled part is the area that has a whole bunch of "spots" on it. Not sure if it is on the coin or in the plastic. The other specs are either dust specs or nicks in the plastic holder)

I did get my Uncir. Dollar. It is a very nice coin. Very good strike and good detail. Fields are clean with no marks. Very even.

I still await Proof dollar, Proof half, uncir. half.

I hope they will fill all the orders. I have waited and waited and waited.

It looks like it's on the coin to me. The way to determine if it's on the coin or the plastic is to hold the coin at an extreme angle and move it around. If the spots move on the coin as in a mirror, it's on the plastic. If the don't move or if they are obviously on the coin, well....

This is probably residue from the solution that the mint used to clean the planchets before the coins are struck. If these spots are on the coin I'd consider sending it back if you think it is worth it. If you do sent back, you lose, but if you keep it you lose. This is the bad part about ordering coins from the mint and being able to see them before the purchase.

I would be mad as well.
Have not gotten any silvers yet.
I got 2 gold commems (1 mint, 1 proof)
Sent both to PCGS and both came back MS/PR 69's.
So I did okay in that department (gold).

I'm still waiting for my gold proof to come back from PCGS. It had a real nice strike, great cameo, just a beautiful coin.

Bill: as near as I can determine, it looks like the spots are, unfortunately, on the coin.

At least it is a fairly inexpensive coin, so it isn't a super big deal. I really like the coin design though, so I want to have one that is in good shape without the spots.

I guess I have a few more days to decide what I want to do with the coin I have...I may just send it back for replacement.
