The toning is not as vibrant in person. Still nice, though. Not my photo.

The 71-D's come pretty nice. Looks like a decent strike, and the fields on the obverse are quite clean. There are a few microticks on the jaw, and one on the right middle shield. I can't tell from the pic if the bottom of the neck is clean, but it appears so. I'm unsure of the disturbance traveling right toward the edge from the designer's initials, but it is not distracting. Luster is subdued, and average. The breaks in luster on either side of the eagle ARE distracting. For that reason, I max the coin at a 5, even though based on marks, it's a nicer coin. If the blotchiness developed after it was holdered, the coin is a high 66. Otherwise, it's a 5 to me. BTW - no scuff at the top of the shield, and that's pretty unusual. image

I'm sorry but this one isn't that impressive from my perspective unless the scan is not telling the whole story. MS64 on a lucky day.

In terms of the toning, this picture totally flatters the coin. It doesn't really look anything like this. The lavender toning is very, very subtle, and you just about have to stand on your head and squint your eyes to even see it.

It's a nice looking coin, though, and is in a 65 holder.
