type sets

I went to a local auction (not coin) and picked up two bust halves..1820 and 1837.
The 1820 is a bit larger and in good condition and the 1837 is very nice.
I knew very little about them but thought they were cool enough to bid $5 for each.
I got them both.
Since I don't collect them yet (may now) was wondering if anyone has run
across a collection book or holder which would let someone collect say
one of each $.50 types minted in th US. Seems like a reasonable idea in all denominations.
ie.. every penny type ..quarter type..half type..dollar type.

Dansco make an album for type set from 1800 on....can't remember the particular seial nr.
Watch out though...it becomes an obsession

$5 each was definately a bargain. Dansco makes a good type album for all types 1800-date. If you just want specific denomination type holders, capital plastics makes very nice holders for denomination types but I believe the half dollar type holder only has one space for a bust half, not two.

I looked at a few online coin supply places and couldn't find anything.
I will try and contact Dansco to see what they might have. It would only
need to hold one I only mentioned I picked up the two.
I live in a small community in Idaho on the Montana border and it
was just a ranch auction. I don't think anyone else knew what they were.
I actually had never seen any but knew enough to know they were worth $5.
I probably would have gone to $10 but no one else cared.
I will try to post a picture if I can get my wife to show me how. She is the computer
person in our family. We have a digital camera but I've never used it.
Still some bargains out there I guess.
The 1837 is probably a very fine at a minimum.

Welcome to the Ultra Cool World of Coin Collecting! At $5.00 each, even if they were counterfeit they would be worth more than that. At a VF for the 1837, that really is a good deal. Unfortunately you won't find many bargins like that, but it is good that it was your first one.

Outstanding buy and Welcome!!--you can order the Dansco #7070 album online from a number of websites. Also the half dollar type set holder shown in a previous post is a great way to house the half type set--and if you can never afford to fill the first two types, you can always buy copies from Gallery Mint.

Dansco Inc. can be reached at (323) 734-6373. Their no. 7070 US type set album lists for $24.45 but can sometimes be found at a discount on eBay and other online venues. A fun set to assemble. Good Luck!
