How could ANYONE possibly like garbage like this? : )

More than one person has indicated to me, that he really likes this coin, and, for the life of me, I just don't understand it.

Personally, I think it's dull, dark, unoriginal, ugly, weakly struck and otherwise disgusting looking. imageimageimage

What do you folks think?

Horrible quality, the liberty showing under the eagles left wing really ticks me off, never should have gotten out of the mint like that.

    Rick,

I would gladly take you up on your offer, had someone with obviously (very) poor taste not already purchased it. I was thrilled and deeply relieved to see that one go - whew!

dipped, harshly cleaned and retoned. when are you guys gonna wise up?? i've already told you how to do this-----dip in e*z*est and don't rinse completely. within a few days you'll have toning like this or any number of variations. all the experts know it, and now, again, so do you.

#2 is from The Shawshank Redemption. Is #1 from an "old" movie?

By the way, the coin was graded AU53 by PCGS.

And, in case anyone took my comments as anything other than joking, I LOVE that coin.image

    coinguy1,

I can see why you love this specimen. But, hey - my brain is not functioning at the moment, so would you explain how this particular variety is designated. Why is "LIB" and what looks like anothestrike beginning with "L" readable and not mirror imaged. What exactly happened to this coin.

Gilbert, it is an 1814/3 over-date, where a "4" in the date was struck over a "3". The Capped Bust half dollar series is packed with neat over-dates / varieties of that sort.

In addition to that, the coin was struck from clashed dies, where part of the design from one side shows through on the other. Some of the letters in the word "LIBERTY" on Ms. Liberty's head band show through on the reverse. There is also some die clashing present on the upper left portion of the obverse, among other areas.

Clashing, overdates......I like the toning......superb and especially so for a very very attractive AU coin!!!!! If it was mine, someone would REALLY have to pry it away from me ($$$$$$$$)! Thanks for sharing!

Coins like that really offend my Christian beliefs. For shame, showing smut like that on these forums.image
