1) you KNOW you don't know the answer...

2) you THINK you don't know the answer....

3) you're CLUELESS as to whether you know the answer.....

4) you KNOW you know the answer.....

Do you .......

A) ignore the question?

reply as if you KNOW the answer?

C) reply as if you MIGHT know the answer?

D) reply as if you're CLUELESS?

E) other?

Please feel free to mix and match any of the numbers and letters above. But, if you are completely clueless (AND you KNOW it), don't feel like you need to reply.

If I know the answer, I always try to share the answer. If I'm not sure, then I'll say what I think and say I'm not sure. If I have no clue, I usually don't reply.

sometimes when i haven't got a clue i know someone who does and i'll reply with that information, but usually i'll send a PM.

1. E-Other. I reply as if he asked a question that I do know the answer to, giving of course the correct answer to that question. After all, its not my fault that he asked the wrong question. This gives him usefull information to the question he should have asked in the first place.

2. E-Othter. I reply telling him I think I know the answer. I do not actually tell what I think the anwswer is since I am not 100% sure and would not want to mislead him.

3. E-Other. See my response to scenario 1.

I always try to answer questions that I know the answer too in such a way that I always have an out, i.e. I read somewhere... I've been told...

If I don't know the answer, I don't respond.

Sometimes I will TTT a thread if nobody can answer the question that was asked or make a light comment to bring it back to the top so other that might be able to answer it can see it. Other times when I do know the answer I will try to help. mike

It depends Mark.

If I know the answer and think it will be appreciated, I'll respond.

If it is seems to be important and needs kinda' immediate attention I'll field it as best I can and suggest who may better answer it. I used to research it myself, and sometimes I still will.

Ans rather than blabber on any further, my best honest answer is "it depends on how I think it will be received," with one exception:

if it is about VAMs and hasn't been sufficiently addressed, I'll chime in anyway.

When answering honestly will hurt or embarrass the poster, I usually ignore the thread. Otherwise, I provide the best info I have with a qualifying remark about my skill level if I feel unqualified.

If I know the answer and no one else has given the answer I try to help. Outside of that the thread is watched untill the answer comes up.

Giving out Bogus information is not good in my opinion. Man I hope the Foot was not inserted with this reply.

Sometimes a mixture of 3 and 4 is good.
But generally 4 is the best approach.

I rarely feel qualified to give advice. I pretty much consider myself a garden variety coin collector.

I occasionaly will share certain experiences I've had. And if someone finds any of that instructional--then it's a bonus.

I try not to answer unless I am fairly sure what I am talking about. If I am not positive, I will say so. I would hate for my advise to be wrong and impact someones decision to buy or not buy a coin.

I'll let the real easy questions go to give someone else a chance. If I can answer
a harder question than I will just to keep the thread moving, even if it's only a very
partial answer. I try to avoid giving any advice since it seems unpopular, but will
to specific requests sometimes.

I have a low threshold to post here and am always looking for post count.
