POLL: Small Show vs Major Show

Would you rather attend a small show or a major show? Some of the responses that I read from my Baltimore/Long Beach etc poll has me a bit curious.

Love a show where you don't have time to properly look at everything you want to.

Since I've only been to small shows, I'd rather attend a major show.

Wish I could vote but I'll be at my first major show next month. So I have no context to compare.

I would say small show, at the large shows there are specialists for almost every series but at a small show there aren't that many specialists so i get a better chance of finding all those FS nickels because almost no one else is looking for those at the shows i've been to.

The bigger the better. Its seldom that small shows have the hard-to-find items for which I'm looking.

Small shows bring more money to dealers as most collectors pay full retail and there is less competition. AS for finding the coins I need, it is hard.

Hands down... a major show because there is a greater chance of finding something unusual.

What is the line of demarcation between large and small shows?

Is it the number of dealers?

    Number of attendees?

The largest I've been to is the Santa Clara show which usually has about 70 or so dealers - is that large or small?

    Lanlord,

That's a good question, one I'm also interested in. The largest I've been to was also about 70 tables. Most around here, though, are 15 to 20 tables. We have one coming up in April that's supposed to be 100 tables. Would that be considered large? Medium?

    Large show.
The stuff I look for, I seldom find at the smaller shows.

    My non-scientific categories are:

Fewer than 40 tables - small
    41-79 tables - medium
    80+ tables - large

Given a choice, I would prefer a large show. Greater chance of seeing something I've never seen before and greater chance of getting to meet up with some board members.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
