1807 draped bust half dollar

PCGS calls the picture with the white background AU50 - the drapery around my half dollar is way more defined!
I have four questions in regards to this coin. Is it graded accurately at XF40? Also, would it CAC? Does it have good eye appeal for the grade? What would you price it as?
Thank-you!!

I did, however for some reason they did not upload - please hold
There you go... sorry, I chose the file upload instead of the image upload
What do you think
Looks like a solid 40. Can't tell if it would CAC though. The marks on the obverse make me think probably not.

Is that straight line through the hair a scratch? I see original silver under the crust, I like it as XF40.
yes, but very old and faint. this is a very high resolution image and under magnification.
Looks well graded at 40, unsure if it would bean.
You mistakenly posted this on "my wall" instead of here.
I would wager If it doesn't jump off the coin like in the photo I don't see why it wouldn't sticker. It seems meaty and original enough to me.
Sorry Meltdown, I'm new and trying to get used to the functions here. Is there a way I can reply directly to a comment separately or is this the only way to do it.
I like it within the XF grade and do believe it'll CAC.
Nice early half.
Thank-you braddick! This coin is very special to me and looks amazing in hand.
Nice coin and welcome to the forum
Nice coin but I do not believe it merits CAC approval

Your title says 1802, but the coin is 1807. Did you place the proper photos in?

First of all, it's an 1807 half dollar, not an 1802. There is big difference in value.
Second, if the grade is EF-40, it looks accurate. My question is, why is the obverse grey and the reverse pale yellow? My guess is it's a white balance issue with the photograph. If that's the case, I think that there is a good chance that it will CAC. If the obverse and reverse look that different, chances are it won't CAC. Two different colors suggest "messed with."
Here is an 1806 half dollar which was stuck under similar circumstances to the 1807 pieces. This one has a lot of luster and has an NGC grade of AU-58. I don't know if it would CAC or not since I don't care much about such things.
This was graded AU-50 when I bought it in a David Akers auction more than 50 years ago. It shows how grading changes over time.
It looks like an 1807. You could correct the thread title by clicking on the "gear" button on upper right.
It looks like it's original and lustrous with high end eye appeal.
I cannot speak about price; check Heritage and Great Collection archives for the best information like that. I have never sent a coin to CAC yet. The coin looks to be a wonderful piece with some residual luster. I would give it a grade of XF-40 with a shot at CHXF-45 if that luster is anything remotely original. James
I really do like these early halves. I had one two years ago around the same grade. I foolishly sold it at a coin show to fund another purchase. I wouldn't do it again.
Another one is on my short list.

This is graded 40 details scratched in an old ANACS holder. I believe it would straight grade today.
I think it would sticker as a 40. To me it looks AU.
@earlyamericancoin That's a nice looking DBH from what I can see. I think EF40 is a fair grade, and the correct grade as well. I don't think it will CAC (I'd probably give it a 35/40% chance from the images) but I still think it's pretty strong and overall pretty wholesome too.
The images are kind of tough to tell, but that's my 50c worth

Looks like a properly graded EF 40 but I would not count on a green bean, CAC seems to find many things to dislike about early type and these have the hardest coins for me to get beaned.

Sorry about the mix-up with the date on the posting. That has been corrected. To answer Billjones, that is just a lighting / camera thing in regards to the difference in color between the obverse and reverse. Both sides look the same in terms of the color - gunmetal gray with original dirty skin.
GuzziSport - NICE COIN!!! Love the color on it!!
Relicsncoins, I believe that should have straight graded then - not a fan of ANACS... and now. I would reholder it in a PCGS holder. Any scratches are not so egregious that it would hold the coin back. Mine has scratches as do most that circulated during that time. Yours and I do believe mine (although they look worse in the picture because of magnification) would look better in a PCGS holder
I would have no qualms about buying it as a XF40. I do think it is worth submitting to CAC.
I agree it has XF level details, and likely has a fair shot at stickering.
I bought this coin from old school dealer Ed Hipps many years ago as a strong Fine.
I showed it to an ANACS rep at a show who said it appeared it was struck on a buckled die, and their verbal opinion was VF 25-30.
OP: I have a PCGS VF30 CAC & compared it to yours. I think your coin is XF40 worthy, like many others have posted (btw, mine was a NGC XF40, but I believe PCGS was justified in downgrading it). As far as CAC, I stopped trying to predict what JA & co would do with these older pieces a long time ago. What I have noticed with these is they’re often declined due to evidence of an old cleaning. Here’s my downgraded one:

Copperindian, I believe the difference with yours versus mine is that the reverse does not have a full motto and the wing and eagles head is not as clearly defined.
Thanks @earlyamericancoin i like your ‘07, unsure if it’ll sticker. Here’s one I have closer in grade to 40…. In case this helps your assessment… good luck!

Well detailed on the Eagle, on a type which often isn’t well ‘struck up’

Typekat - thank-you! What are your thoughts on the obverse?
GuziSport - that vf35 is WAY undergraded.. that's XF45 / AU50 territory. CAC should have gold beaned that one! Smokes!!
Folks, I posted another picture of what PCGS calls AU50.. I feel my coin should be at least an AU50 due to the obverse drapery around lady liberties bust alone. Please let me know what you think. If you have commented, I would love to hear if the picture has changed your thoughts.. thank-you!!
Actually, real decent hair detail on the obverse.
All in all, a nice type coin!

The area to the left of the hair ribbon and the face wear (curls near ear and eyebrows) lead me to doubt it should grade higher and and I doubt CAC approval due to whatever looks like a scratch to the left of the ribbon.
