It's Labor Day 2026...post the fruits of your labor!
Kind of my customary thread each year. Post something you worked hard to obtain, whether by financial means or diligent searching!
Here is something you dont see everyday.
As many of you know, my collecting passion over the last 15 years or so has been the tokens and medals of Boston die sinker, Joseph H. Merriam. Merriam was known for striking the most famous Civil War token, his "Good For A Scent."
Merriam's primary business dealt in stencils and marking equipment. He advertised decorative embossing presses that were shaped like toads and lions. The plates would be engraved with the merchant's information, and a piece of paper would be placed in between them. They'd leave the park when pressed down from the top.
Imagine my surprise when I encountered his PERSONAL press as shown above! This blew me away, as at one time it sat on Merriam's desk and was used to stamp his business papers.

I had to look at a LOT of 76-S trade dollars for years to find this DDO, the king of t$ varieties. There are around a dozen known examples and this is probably in the range of 3rd-5th finest in my estimation.

I have a 1877 trade dollar xf40 in an album that I brought in August 1995 for $200. Saved all my $5 tips, brought it that way 👍

I bought these pieces when I was working for New England Telephone in the 1980s. I bought them raw, there were no TPGs in those days, and had them graded circa 2000.

Yes, the good old "Lion press."
I have never seen, nor had a chance to buy a salamander press which would go with the token shown above.

Took a lot of work to acquire this one, and she is one of my favorite halves I've ever owned. MS-67 CAC from the Eugene Gardner collection.

Thank accounts for a lot of labor.Anyway, it might not really make sense to most people, but a good friend/mentor of mine showed me some very early die state coins of a specific die marriage over / about a year ago, and I have looked at every possible, reasonable grade 1834 I could find for sale since.
Five days before the Summer ANA one popped up on a Web site, and I saw the anomaly that occurs on the earliest dies state immediately. Using their image you might see it too. But I won't spoil the article I am writing. Yet.
HINT: It's on the obverse die, and mine is not as pronounced as I have seen it.
It cost me money too, which I still work for (kind of), and it is a little higher grade than I normally go after, but it was more about trying to find one.
I added a couple of images I took Saturday morning while sipping coffee as well, only to show the color in natural light better.
