That’s all good and well but you still didn’t answer the question. One coin has more buyers than available coins. One has more coins than buyers. Can you figure out which is which? It’s a simple supply and demand question.

They sold out in under 10 minutes. Bom did not sell out. One of those means more people want them than can get them. One of them means there are more coins available than buyer wanting them. Can you figure out which is which?

They sold out in less than 10 minutes and he asks if there's a market for them... nice.

Pavlovian dogs jumping when a low mintage bell rings does not make a market. Please keep things in perspective -- they sold 2700 in less than 10 minutes. Not 27K.

They sold more BOM4s at 3x the price in less time. Yes, I'm questioning whether there is a market for them.

Are you kidding? Do you really think it would have taken 8 minutes for the Mint to sell 2700 BOM4s at $5740 if that was all they made available for sale?

The closest BOM comparison in terms of pricing is BOM2. To date, they sold 16,489 out of a maximum mintage of 30K. Do you really think they sold fewer than 2700 in the first 8 minutes?

Given the tiny mintage, a quick sell out is a function of nothing other than limited availability. Half the per ounce premium to spot as compared to gold certainly helps value, but what does it do for secondary market demand?

I don't know, and I don't care. Because I, like just about everyone else, do not collect palladium.

But, as I said before, if this works for you, I am happy for you. Nothing wrong with it.

But, please, please, please, resist the urge to compare the palladium market to the gold market. There is a reason they only try to sell 5K of one at a $500 premium to spot, while 15-25K of the other at a $1,000 premium to spot is typical. And it's not because they suddenly want to resist the urge to squeeze us for every dollar they can get.

Yes. You are picking a fight where there is none.

The Palladium market is much smaller. So they make a lot less.

And then, they apparently pulled over 40% of the mintage for sale outside the web, if they made them at all. So, sure, they sold 2700 really quickly.

More buyers than available quantity. Doesn't make it more desirable, at least to me, than something people actually collect.

And don't go taking me literally now, because, yes, someone obviously collects anything. Including one ounce uncirculated palladium coins from the US Mint. Just not widely enough to be of interest to me.

Now, where is the flip? Are people really going to go chase these now in the secondary market? If there is one, great.

If you are a palladium collector and you happened to snag one, congratulations. It's still a niche product, and there is no reason to try to compare it to something that is far more widely collected.

    I’d love to hear NJ’s thoughts on this…. 😆

My thoughts are that they made 5K and sold them. That's great.

The premium is reasonable as compared to all their other numismatic product. The mintage is low.

As it was for the First Spouse coins. If there is a market for palladium numismatic coins, these should do well. Is there?

Reasonable? $500 over melt for a metal nobody cares about?? Give me some of what you be smoking or on second thought please don't. Things these days sure don't seem very promising. SMH!

The whole worlds off its rocker, buy Gold™.

I don't want to argue just for the sake of arguing, and I sure don't want to be taking @jwitten's and @illini420's position here, but, yeah, $500 over melt for something with such a low mintage is very reasonable. Even if it isn't widely collected.

I compared it to gold just to demonstrate what pigs the Mint has become. Because if they can make $500 over melt work for something with a 5K mintage, they can make it work for gold coins with far higher mintages. They just choose not to, and it is inexcusable.

Wow! Wasn't paying attention to this one today. Saw a post on another site showing ATS hit zero at 12:08:06 so this was only a hair longer than the EU Gold Eagle earlier this year. (Let's not count the silver Liberty Bell 20 second sellout LOL)

I think that might have been me or @sharks2th if it was on CoinNews. I lost on in the great EU AGE lotto. Although I've got to clear up the "We’re Unable to Fulfill Your Order" for the 2nd time in two weeks.

YES!!!!!!!! It was you! I am only a "lurker" there.....I really appreciate your posts there. You generally track all of this stuff very well, so your posts are VERY INFORMATIVE for numbers geeks like me. Nice to see you here!

Thanks @mbr33, I've been more of a lurker on Collector's Universe

If you really want it still, call up customer service at the number given in the e-mail (or see some of the posting above). I just got my credit card charges reauthorized. Here is a new spin: for my first caill they couldn't get they system to accept my credit card #. It took the second phone call for success. I think they said you have 7 or 8 days to fix the problem... I would not wait that long though. Good luck @Slowhand

When I got ahold of them and gave them my card number it also failed again. She said it was because I had speaker phone on, which makes no sense. But I took speaker phone off and tried again and it went through. I guess their system is super sensitive and background noise was messing it up, even though I was keying in my numbers and not saying them.

I'm surprised that thesecsold do quickly. I love these coins. The RP is one of the coolest coins of any kind that i've ever seen. However, there is not seem to be much of a secondary market for these & I don't recall the prior sales being nearly this robust.

No argument there. The vast majority of the numismatic precious metal product they sell certainly does revert to melt.

But that has been in a rising precious metal market. TBD whether low mintage numismatic product will ever command a premium in a market with a sustained downturn in precious metal prices.

I have no idea, because I don't collect them. But that's neither here nor there, if not only were prior mintages higher, but a higher percentage of them were available for sale to the public.

While everyone here is breathless over an 8 minute sell out, people are ignoring that only involved 2700 units. Only 60% of the published maximum. Basically nothing.

People went nuts over 2,026 Liberty Bells being offered at an over $15,000 per ounce premium to spot gold. These are priced at "only" $500 above spot palladium.

So it's a tiny mintage for the price. Which also means nothing if there is not a robust collector market for them. Which there is not, even if people are taking a shot at only $500 above spot due to the mintage.

My question, bud, is whether the 5 minute sell out of 15K 8 years ago resulted in a coin that anyone cares about today, given how some are pimping the 8 minute sell out of 2700 in 2026 as something so spectacular as to mean that those who are unimpressed are ignorant?

Your answer makes it clear that you don't buy much Palladium. At APMEX the cheapest 1oz Palladium coins are about $1900 and the cheapest name brand 1oz bars are ~$250 over spot. The mint priced these attractively.

Correct. I don't buy any palladium. When I was a kid, it was what a high school graduation ring was made of if you couldn't afford silver. It became a big deal when platinum became expensive and catalytic converters became widespread.

Whatever it is today, it was not a precious metal when I came into the hobby. And, I think you are actually making my point.

The Mint "priced it well" because it recognizes that platinum and palladium coins simply do not command the same premium as gold. The are only making 5K because they don't think they would be able to sell significantly more. Because, if they thought 5K would be home runs, they'd have priced them higher, like they did with the Liberty Bells.

I looked it up. They only sold 3375 out of a maximum of 7500 in 2024, 5777 out of 6K in 2023, etc. Those were also "priced well."

As I have been saying, a very niche product made for a very niche market. The people here jumping up and down over it are acting like they discovered fire because 2700 sold in 8 minutes.

If they made 10K available, 2700 would have still sold in 8 minutes, while over 6K would be sitting unloved. The fact that they sold out of a very low quantity does not mean a market is now going to develop that did not exist before. Believe me, if there was a larger market, the Mint would be feeding it, and not leaving money on the table while they are going to the trouble of putting the coin into production.

No. I don't want to make sure of anything. I was just asking a question, in order to try to get a beat on the meaning of 2700 selling out quickly in 2026. I don't think it means anything, and am looking for evidence that I might be wrong.

If you look, I was not replying to you, but yes I am agreeing with you on this point.

The Mint "priced it well" because it recognizes that platinum and palladium coins simply do not command the same premium as gold. The are only making 5K because they don't think they would be able to sell significantly more. I've always paid attention to these and I don't remember the mint's pricing being as attractive (relative to competing coins) in past years. The premium on 1oz coins, at least at APMEX, seems to be especially high right now. I find it interesting that the off brand bars are only around +$250. I think if the markets were "more normal" the coins at APMEX would be about +$300 and the mint wouldn't be looking so favorable at +%500.

As I have been saying, a very niche product made for a very niche market. The people here jumping up and down over it are acting like they discovered fire because 2700 sold in 8 minutes.

Indeed, the market for these based on historical sales is not more than a few thousand collectors. The mint got the mintage right on this one. Had they released all 5000 today to retail sales at HHL=1, I don't think they would have sold out in 1 day.

I just wish that there was a smaller size of these (meaning less expensive). I really like the idea of different elements as coins, much of my coin collection is by element (mostly Cu, Ni, Al, Ag), and I would love to add palladium, but the price for the 1 oz is more than I want to spend. It is nice hearing about how nice they look, someday I will try and get one. Sounds like I need to learn about the finishes also.

russia has minted fractional palladium ballerinas [their main palladium coin offering] in the past, maybe the us mint will begin taking that approach with the right variables

without going too much off topic, you've got a whole world of other metals to explore - i think right away of the various niobium offerings by world mints

    good luck and have fun

According to sales on eBay, they have been selling for between $2375 and $3599 and everything in between -- so it sounds like one could at least get their money back (after selling fees). It's so early, this market might still be fueled by FOMO after the sellout though.

No way to know, but I'd be very surprised if these hold a real premium over time.

I love these coins. If I didn't already have one in this finish I'd have bought one. The dual date is very cool, but already spent a ton this year.

The Mint store just sold the last one. They still had them for several hours this morning.

I truly regret never going to The Mint store when I lived in the DC area over a decade ago. I probably walked right by it a few times and just didn't know what was going on inside.

Its really a huge advantage living so close.

Of course, the cost of living around here is astronomical. So, there is that.

I tried. Just got the - 'we ain't fulfilling your order' email

Thanks for the information about the speaker phone. I was using a headset with the microphone dangling on the cable. Maybe it was causing a similar problem.

Once again I feel I received YET ANOTHER advance dealer purchase return in 2026. As usual coin was not correctly placed in fuzzy holder. 100% in common with other reject coins this year. I was sad to see it so I broke out the glass. Once you see it, it cannot be unseen. I think planchet texture was not fully struck out at rim edge. It effects fully 1/4 of circumfrence. Got a hammered effect.

I had already decided I would keep a flawed delivery as mark up was not grossly inflated like Silver & Gold collectable bullion.
My first & last palladium ounce purchase.

5,000 made & SOLD OUT IN 8 MINUTES so I see no hope for perfect exchange, and my last refund took 6&1/2 weeks. Called twice and was told refunds were running 2 or more months these days. People on phone were AWESOME and assured me everything was done right by me and was in process, the USMINT was just overwhelmed by returns.

I will 100% rethink ever paying for nextday again as all my qc issues have had nextday deliveries incommon too.

    Too many coincidences for me.

    Happy QC Inspections Day !!!

gahh - im sorry to see that

palladium can be very brittle at higher temperatures

not something you want to see on a coin that costs so much

is there doubling around the A, or a trick of light?

I'm sorry you got a dud and that the return is going to take so long. I hope they'll at least pay for return shipping considering yours is genuinely defective. Mine is not coming until tomorrow or the next day but I will inspect it carefully -- particularly the rim.

Returns are free, just follow their rules. Follow the link on your order page. "RETURN ITEM" Easy~Peazy. Print label, drop off at usps, get a receipt from them and watch 1/2 a season pass, just two months fly bye bye.

I am keeping this challenged $25 palladium ounce bullion coin

I have no hope to replace for better or any and as I was already told returns are running 2 months behind a couple weeks ago I will keep what I was dealt.

Palladium has a higher over spot premium than typical gold and silver on global markets. In some aspects I paid typical bullion price over spot for it.

I am curious if my bad luck is replicated. I thought about not posting about the long flaws but what the heck, maybe they all look like that ?

It is a pretty retro design, smaller diameter than I thought it would be. I have never seen the series inperson.

It's all good but could have been spectacular.

I am a-ok with the transaction, but no more new issues for me via next day delivery.

will say that I got a 70-graded 2020 palladium eagle less than a year after issue for same as issue price; maybe it was 'the times' but you might v well find you can get a better, graded version down the road a bit if you return your current imperfect version

that being said, nothing wrong w accepting the hand u were dealt

Saw another with similar defect. Owner bragging on facebook its perfect.

    ;^)

Seriously, put a good glass on coin purchases.
I can see QC boo~boo in his images.
    Ignorance is bliss.
I did not rain on 100% perfect coin's buyer

Anyways, since its in same exact area maybe die damage at inner edge of rim is culprit ?

Still pretty cerain I am keeping mine, but flaws are flaws and $1900 is $1900 for $1350 in metal whose production run may be plagued with the same recurring flaw.
