My check was cashed over two weeks ago and still have not seen the coins. I'm thinking of placing a stop payment on the check

It sounds like it's already been cashed so how can you stop payment? 🤔

Will your bank try to claw it back?

    But but but... the BST...

Can you see when they were last active?

Are you emailing them or DMing on the forum?

If they haven't cashed the check, there may be something going on. Of course, once they do cash the check, you are out of options.

FYI I would always pay with PayPal and add 3.5% for this reason.

Hmmm, a lower value transaction, I would assume a member of 20 years has a good explanation, maybe premature to think you won't receive your coins. Hopefully he'll see this and follow up. Life happens some times ..

if this is in fact the BST you are referencing.

I'd like to hope so, but I'm worried it might be something more serious. Look at this BST thread from the same seller:

    https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/1125276/delete#latest

The seller claimed he was the one being scammed (under rather strange circumstances), and now a second transaction gone awry? I don't like the look of it...

_most recent feedback on ebay seems to indicate there are active shipments post-your "check is in the mail" post

    he seems to be around

have you tried PM here and replying to the bst thread with your issue.

checks are processed through banks by images now and that's why you don't get your checks back
    but
there are people like me who still want to hold checks longer. and for good reason, there are rare situations that will bounce a check after you think it's clear.

perhaps, if you can see the check image, you can send a screenshot of your cashed check to prove it's cleared

Should have received coins by now, even if registered mail. Maybe this person had some sort of life event, that made it difficult/impossible to send coins. (Death-sickness-etc) . I'd keep trying contact for a month or so. Maybe, if warranted, some legal action can be done, depending on value. May consider warning others on forum of this transaction so others won't get hurt.

That thread on the bst was where a phony consignor to him was the scammer and No Forumite Lost Money" and I doubt it went as far as anyone sending money.

has he not had successful ebay and bst interactions since? press for better communication. try sending a ebay message about the bst

Well, I'm not going to make any suggestions about any individual without some evidence.

I will say that is you track some of his other sales in August, they seem to have gone through fine. The exception is that bizarre listing he deleted where he claims to have been scammed. It's very strange that someone would list 5 figure coins on a consignment without verifying the consignor. I wouldn't do that with $100 coin much less a $25,000 coin.

It's also odd that the check cleared in the 19th and he listed other items after that and was active on the forum yesterday.

But, I'll wait for more information.

The BST forum has a post with guidelines pinned at the top, which states “Collectors Universe assumes no liability in the event of either party failing to fulfill their commitment to the other party”, among other things.

So do not expect the mods to intervene in any transaction disputes. They are busy enough dealing with members posting political rants or reporting people with duplicate accounts, and other such nonsense.

Nothing is as expensive as free money.

My comment was intended for the person invoking the moderators and as a general reminder about the BST.

As far as how to handle: there’s a comment in that seller’s other (“suspicious”) thread by a member who stated he spoke with the seller directly. If it were me, I would contact that member.

And yes, you did (apparently inadvertently) tag the mods by quoting @cameonut2011 when he tagged the mods. You've been on this forum for 20 years, it's really not that complicated.

Gerard has been around on these forums for many years. If his account wasn't compromised or hacked, I'd be surprised he'd take your money and not ship the goods but one week without communication is not good. If he had time to cash the check, he has time to send a PM.

Right. And the answer is that they are not going to get involved. Not even a little.

Because then they get dragged into it. You are totally on your own if you are not dealing with a party that takes responsibility for postings, like eBay.
