"Countermarked" US Dollars on display at the Tower of London

I'm in London this week and of course I toured the Tower of London. Coins were minted at the Tower on Mint Street from 1279-1812 and the coin displays were very impressive,with coins on display dating back to 1279.
These Flowing Hair and Draped Bust Dollars are described as " Liberty Dollars" and were on display with the description of being 'Countermarked"

Very interesting. Does anyone know of similar examples outside of a museum? Appears to be GIII.

If you have time try to visit the Bank Of England Museum itself - it is worth the walk. It has well presented interactive exhibits and a whole lot of eye candy - not as much as the British Museum (& Coincraft across the street from it!) but very worthwhile. The entrance is kind of hidden on the east side of the bank just off Threadneedle Street.

That's a wonderful museum, and the British Museum is Five star as well,and
I enjoy the fact that all of the Museums in the UK have Free Admission.
I had a lovely visit today at the Imperial War Museum,the Great War and Second World War galleries in particular held my interest
