Dodgers got that HUGE TV contract - is that fair? Who knows - MLB seems to think so as long as they get some too! Yankees had a huge TV contract a while ago also - I think that is when they built their new stadium and then started charging $2000 a seat up close behind home plate............
BUT - When they acquired Skubal he said he could have gone anywhere! Well true, he could have but he went to the most money and the Dodgers had it!
BUT - now who roots against the Dodgers? A lot of baseball fans - and they are especially cheering now that they have gone 2 - 8 in their last 10 and have lost 6 in a row!

Skubal had no say in where he was traded and his salary didn't change upon going to LA.

Dodger hegemony is making championship baseball boring again like when the Yankees won all the time. You watch some of your favorites or local teams during the regular season. When the playoffs start, you watch football, which is more interesting anyway.

The Dodgers have the competitively lethal combination of smart management and almost infinite funds. Unless you are a Dodgers fan, it’s better ignore the post season and look at some else.

Last year was one of the best/enjoyable World Series ever.

Nothing is stopping the other teams from spending their profits instead of pocketing them...and from being smarter.

The Yanks winning in the 90s was great. I happen to like when there is a benchmark team that other teams have to beat to earn their stripes. Too much parity in football actually is boring.

Only if you were a Dodgers fan. The Blue Jays folded.

Post season baseball is boring. There’s a good reason why the World Series gets covered after the football scores.

I’m too old. I go back to the ‘50s when the Yankees won year after year after year. I hate the Yankees. When Steinbrenner ran the team, there was never a player they couldn’t buy and never one they couldn’t afford to keep.

You seem to like dynasties. The only one I enjoyed was the New England Patriots.

If L.A. 3-peats they will have earned it. Dave Roberts will be remembered as one of the very best leaders ever. Every team in the N.L. is aiming for them. Right now I need them to crush Milwaukee

If they make it to the World Series the pressure to win it will be enormous. Whomever is competing for them will be pushing the limits to make it happen. The final weeks and the playoffs should be really fun to see this season. Can't wait for October.

I find the post season exciting. To each their own.

Yes, I guess I do like dynasties. I like the fact that the Dodgers spend a high percentage of their profits, and I don't like that other teams in big markets keep a high percentage of their profits instead of investing in their roster.

Also, the Dodgers are smart with their decisions.

Miami has a huge market and they don't draw enough fans...perhaps they should figure that out and solve that problem. Be smarter. They also don't spend the profits they make. That is both true for several MLB teams.

The White Sox draw fans when they win. Their owner is the cheapest of cheap. They didn't spend any money in developing their young talent in the minor leagues and the major leagues and that hurt any long term success. They had a core of young stars a few years ago and invested poorly in them. They should have done better research on Eloy Jimenez before locking him up to a long term deal before he proved anything in MLB. In the minors he already had a lazy reputation when the Cubs first traded him to the Sox.

Now the Sox team now looks promising. Fun and exciting to watch. They sold out several times this year already. The owner is in a spot where he could spend on a big contract or two. Murakami will be a big test as he is a free agent after next year. Will Reinsdorf keep the money and blame the Dodgers...or spend it and get sell out fans for years to come.

Don't forget, there was a time in the 50's and 60's in Chicago when the White Sox routinely out sold the Cubs in attendance basically every year.

No excuses. Get it done. Not the Dodgers fault.

Speaking of the Cubs, there is nothing holding them back from being the Dodgers of the midwest. Nothing. It is there for them to take if they want to spend the money...but they like to keep the money instead. The Cubs should have signed Bryce Harper when the Phillies did, but they were too cheap to eat two hop chop Heyward's salary. Then they gave away Kyle Schwarber. They gave a fake interest in Ohtani, and the Cubs already had a strong Japanese connection on their team too. They didn't want to spend for him, period.

Your handle @1948_Swell_Robinson says it all. You’re a Dodgers fan

As for the Miami team, what are they supposed to do? I think they have two World Series, which much better than most teams given their short history. The trouble is the franchise does not draw well. They can’t keep the good players they have let alone get more on the free agency market.

The Tampa also does well given the small market. There’s a chance that the team will leave Tampa because the city fathers can’t agree on a new stadium in a better location. Part of the attendance problem is that Tropicana Field is in an inconvenient location. They have been messing with the issue for a couple of years.

And yes, the Dodgers have the lethal combination of huge sums of money and smart management. As a fan, I can acknowledge it, but I don’t have like it or consume their product.

As a Red Sox fan I was not happy when the Dodgers bought Mookie Betts after he burned them in a World Series. Yes, it’s a fact of baseball, but as a consumer I don’t have to like it.

Baseball has the worst collective ownership group in the big 4 sports. A number of them dont care about anything but money and are cheap, then a number of them have been using profits on real estate projects. When you turn your team into a farm system for the league like the Pirates have people stop showing up especially since concession prices are still similar everywhere. They have a cheat code with Skenes and Livvy but the other games look different.

As will be a disaster in Vegas. The Trop Casino was a dumb but putting one of the cheapest owners on the strip in that city of opulence is just dumb. Youre basically banking on locals or comped casino vouchers for fans and prices will be high.

Vegas works for the NHL because they set the expansion draft in a way to make sure they were good immediately won some cups and built a fan base and does all the pageantry. NFL thats just not many games so its easier. The last thing Im doing for entertainment in Vegas is going to watch the last place 48-75 As

It was nice today watching the guy who Detroit wanted (Logan Henderson) beat the guy who they were supposed to go all in on (Skubal).

The A’s have spent quite a bit more on payroll this year than last and I would expect them to continue to spend more once they’re in the new stadium. But are they locking up the right guys?

The As are still bottom 4 in payroll and a bad team which is why they had pushback from LV and this has taken a bit. Theyre still under a 100 million and they get revenue sharing which is about 70 mil. Thats not going to go over well in LV

They’re 20th in 2026. They have more payroll in 2026 than the Brewers. The team you predicted would fade that is leading MLB in wins as of today.

Theyre not/ Severino and that dumb contract makes 20 mil this year but it counts as 25 in reporting just like the Dodgers with Othani he makes 2 million and counts as about 45.

Only two franchises have never given a 100 million contract, the As and White Sox.

Its August 16th plenty of games left and no one could have predicated the Cubs would forget how to play baseball for two weeks. Also said the rebuilding Cards, the Pirates, and Reds would all fade and they did

    The Sox better with Murakami.

Murakami and Vargas are an excellent engine for that lineup. Add Antonacci, Colson Montgomery, and Meidroth, the Sox have an excellent five person core to that lineup with a great blend of On Base, Power, and grit. Braden Montgomery is showing flashes that he will join them as a consistent key core component next year.

If Teel gets healthy he will be a core too. Violent swing, but couildn't find his footing with the injuries this year.

Will see if Reinsdorf goes cheap. He has no excuse. They can be good. They have been selling out some games and the stadium is packed all games now. They have a strong knowledgable fan base (unlike the bulk of the Cubs fan base where they are going to the game to either drink or post pictures on Facebook.

I think the Brewers will fade a little too. They might still hold onto first place because the Cubs have been riding PCA and he has to keep that up which will be hard., and the five game lead is still a decent lead at this point.

BGR, I would have predicted Bauers to fade too. He is playing so far above his head and he is carrying them. His OPS+ the combined three previous years was 92. Jimmy Foxx is still Foxxing too.

I don't think Reinsdorf is really relevant right now. This team is being run by Ishbia family already. They're going to move the stadium in the south loop - right by the McCormick facilities there (the big convention centers). That might be nice but I would have wanted further north along the lakefront but I guess the issue is with the soil there. That land is all swamp, delta, marsh originally.

I think the Brewers will fade a little too. They might still hold onto first place because the Cubs have been riding PCA and he has to keep that up which will be hard., and the five game lead is still a decent lead at this point.

Teams like the Brewers don't always have the depth to cover in-season losses. The Brewers weakness this year is mostly pitching depth. Last year at this time they were in the midst of one of two 10+ game winning streaks... top of the world right. I'm hoping for them to get hot on the way in this season instead of slumping their way into October. They have been poor offensively since the break.

BGR, I would have predicted Bauers to fade too. He is playing so far above his head and he is carrying them. His OPS+ the combined three previous years was 92. Jimmy Foxx is still Foxxing too.

He's done better than many expected given the opportunity. Is he playing above his head? Maybe. I hadn't heard of him before he was traded to the Brewers. It wasn't a big trade or anything. Matt Arnold liked him from his own time with the Rays. He didn't really get a legitimate shot to be an every day player anywhere until 2026 so it's good to see his bat speed and plate-discipline on paper translate to results in the game. There's 4 games I've watched this season that he's the only reason the Brewers won - been as clutch as anyone this season.

Montgomery was a stud at A&M, I still remember his injury at the plate that was tough to see happen a well liked player by fans coaches and teammates. White Sox got a steal with him. He doesnt fall out of the top 10 of the draft if he doesnt get hurt and they got him at 12.

I do agree the WS have no excuse to be cheap. They even have way better food than Wrigley does for concessions but an insanely cheap owner keeping with the traditions from the Black Sox days. Hes so cheap that hes in the owner group where Ill believe it when I see it. Theyve been in spots like this before and he chose not to spend

As far as the Cubs yea I dunno whats going on with them. They were rolling then just decided to lose every game for 2 weeks like they had everything locked up. 5 games is pretty good but can be over come especially since they have 7 games left against each other. Their pitching has been decimated by injuries but PCA cant do it all. Nico and Kelly need to stop sucking and their DH spot has been atrocious

Fisher is going to bank in Vegas. He turned away a great deal in Oakland because that sports betting money is too enticing. I expect that he's going to spend there on payroll.

Ill even help you out https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/payroll/_/year/2026

Its August 16th plenty of games left and no one could have predicated the Cubs would forget how to play baseball for two weeks. Also said the rebuilding Cards, the Pirates, and Reds would all fade and they did

Why would it matter? It’s still a commitment to future dollars they will have on their books? If your assumption is that they will just spend less to offset that in the future then fine. It’s an idea. I would disagree and say that I bet their spending will increase when they move in. We can wait a few years and find out who’s right. Eat healthy and exercise!

I doubt hes going to spend a ton there., He owns half of the Oakland stadium and just wanted out of Oakland like the other teams did from the situation of the city and the Cali tax rates which is why they all left

Hes obviously going to take advantage of the gambling but even the Golden State Warriors in the NBA left Oakland and they didnt leave the state or go to Vegas. Theyve lost all their teams and its more than just trying to get to Vegas. Tampa who is also cheap but at least good is and has been in a worse stadium situation and would have made more sense to move them put them in the AL West and move the Astros to the AL East instead of floating ideas about them playing half their games in Canada that the players were absolutely against

LOL. You obviously don't actually watch the Cubs, do you? Until this disaster of a weekend, they'd won 10 out of the past 13 games. They were gaining ground and then the Brewers decided to be themselves again in L.A. Still not a long distance to go from 5 games down. As for their DH spot, it alters from game to game. Lately, the DH has been their home run guy, like Suzuki, Bregman or Conforto going deep after a comfortable day on the bench.

I don’t think many people follow the NL central like we do. Padres were perfect against the Brewers. That’s a dangerous team.

I confused. You claimed they decided to lose every game for 2 weeks. I thought you meant recently. Yes, they had a REALLY BAD month, 7 wins and 22 defeats IIRC. :D

And yet, still they persist. Because, because.....they don't want me to just lay there on my easy chair with a smug grin on my face. No, they want me to have palpitations and pee in my pants over their incapacities. Meh. ;)

No worries I didnt mean recently but that stretch is whats the difference between them leading the division and being where theyre at. Even if they just went .500 theyre still in first place, They have a chance to right the wrong and I do think they are the better team that has a couple guys not having good seasons and a lot of pitching injuries, but if they dont win the division that stretch is why

Montgomery is a super nice kid. He is going to be good. He has shown some opposite field power, and when he starts turning on a few more his home runs will come in MLB. He, like the rest of the young Sox, have had some bad base running mishaps to take them out of innings(and a couple of wins). Hopefully they tighten that up.

During their terrible stets they went 4-22. Thats 26 games and 500 would mean 13-13 which is 9 extra wins. Last I checked 9 is almost double the 5 games back so yes they would still be in first place but go on

You make a good point. I would say just shoot for the moon and give them 17-18 more wins now and they’re on pace to take the title from their 1906 selves. That Cubs topple started right after you proclaimed their schedule to be one of the easiest in baseball. ;)

The one thing I do worry about with him is if theres anything thats lingering on the right ankle fracture which hurts more when hes hitting right handed. Hes struggled against lefties when he hits right handed and that should be easier for him since hes a natural righty that throws right handed. That repaired fractured ankle he tried to come back from and just couldnt is the power foot hitting right handed.

I love him as a player and everything does indicate hes a good guy but his right side numbers have dropped since the injury

The Dodgers owner has the Feds investigating him & it's possible that there could be nefarious utilizations of his assets across multiple companies that could force him to liquidate the Dodgers and land him in Folsom or the like. While it's early, his world could unravel and a new owner would have $1 billion in deferred salaries to pay. He's already selling the Lakers & allegedly tried to cash-out out of his sweetheart TV deal...

I don't think it would impact the Dodgers if anything happens to Walter. He's not the only billionaire in the Guggenheim group and it would just be a restructuring I expect. Maybe I'm wrong. we'll see.

Hes definitely in trouble and might be looking at places down in Panama lol. Dodgers will be harder to sell his share with all the deferred money. This just keeps looking worse and worse and is heading towards the point that the other owners will force him to sell his share in the team.

Padres sale just got approved not to long ago and new ownership has more money if or not they use on the field we shall see as a side note
