congrats to the Dodgers on another chip
and they'll have an extended period of time to celebrate with the impending lockout
i would legit like to know how anyone can get on board with this sport

Traded for Skubal. Doesn’t mean much if they don’t resign him - anyone willing to throw the Tigers enough high level prospects could have had him. But that’s the thing about the Dodgers - they have the $s AND the coaches/scouts to have a crazy good system - their 5th ranked prospect was 25th overall??!!?? That’s nuts considering how good the big league club is.
I’m pro salary cap as a Pirates fan, but the cap only does so much - we’ll still be middling at best with our current owner and GM… And the Dodgers have it all.

Other teams don't really try and that is the problem. There is no reason why the Cubs couldn't have made this trade. LA didn't give up any of their top ten prospects.
Other teams either don't spend their money(keep it in their pockets) or they spend poorly.
Dodgers revenue was 752 million and they spent 73% of their revenue on Payroll of 543 million.
Cubs revenue was 514 million and they spent only 36% of their revenue on Payroll of 213 million

That Cubs revenue doesn't include that they now own the entire neighborhood around Wrigley. They are printing money.
So if you are a Cubs fan and are complaining, don't blame LA. Either buy more $18 beers and $125 seats behind a pole...or send a message and don't buy either.
Other teams need to find a way to make more money, spend it wisely, draft better, develop minor league and big league players better, and make better trades.
Red sox only spend 42% of their revenue on payroll.. They were dumb enough to trade Betts to LA and their return didn't pan out. They got fleeced.
The Cubs ranked 26th in the league in percent of revenue spent on salaries.
The Red Sox ranked 23rd in the league in percent of revenue spent on salaries.
Cub fans and Red Sox fans have zero cause to complain. Their complaints should be toward their respective team owners.
Sure, there are a handful of really low level revenue teams...the modern day Washington Senators...bu the majority of teams have no excuse and need to stop complaining and just do a better job of generating revenue, spending it wisely in bunches, and winning.
LA does it right all the way around. They aren't the villain...they are the benchmark.
The whole thing has become unmanageable. No player is worth the kind of money the teams " especially the Dodgers" are paying for players. It needs to stop NOW as no players need that much money !

It will never stop until it is completely destroyed and torn down to be rebuilt in some sensible way. As long as there is revenue sharing there will be no incentive for teams to be competitive. The team I cheer for has no reason to chase a player like Skubal, they can let the Dodgers pay him and still reap the reward.

It’s not as much about the dollars spent as it is the value. Some teams do more with a dollar. The Mets are less competitive than the Pirates.
Absolutely not true. The less money players get the more money owners get to pocket. Without players there is no revenue. Othanis making 2 million a year until his contract runs out. Hes makes over 100 million a year in endorsements and brings the team like 100 million or more in revenue.

CBA isnt the problem the owners are. Could mix most issues getting rid of the bad owners forcing them to sell and getting new ones that actually care about winning and the sport and not just using the team as a piggy bank to finance real estate projects and personal luxuries

As far as the Skubal situation people are over reacting. Hes coming off an elbow surgery we dont even know what he will look like when he comes back.
Its also baseball not the NBA. Any team can lose a series at any time. Dodgers have had a super team for 10 years at least and only 1 WS. I dont count 2020 that was a 60 game season. 2001 Yankees were a super team and they lost the world series to the Diamondbacks who had a trash lineup other than 2 guys

Everyone rounds into form when you get to start against the As, Angels, Royals, and Os the worst teams in the bad AL. Dodgers do have a soft schedule the rest of the way especially in September. NL path to the WS is much harder than the AL though. He hasnt been great against the actual good teams hes faced since coming back which is why I said that. Ill give you it should have been worded differently

That’s one way to look at it. There’s also the other. His first 3 starts I think were pretty rough. Command was an issue. His last 4 have been on form and his last 2 were dominant performance. Under the hood the numbers also tell the story. High whiff rate. He’s a great pitcher and while there is a risk you know he’s adding value. I just wouldn’t have wanted to lose Henderson and that Pena was floated as part of the pitch bothered me. I know they wanted to go aggressive but I’m fine with trying to catch lightning in a bottle.
Can't wait to see how well Skooby Do gets along with L.A.'s dumbass catcher.
Im not saying hes not a great pitcher but his last three were the Angels, Royals, Os. I have no clue what happened to the Os but a lot of people look really good against them this year
Im still looking for him to prove it against really good teams which honestly might not happen until the playoffs. He did have a quality start against the Os but I wouldnt say that was dominate which was his most recent. KC is definitely his best start since hes come back and the Angels the second best
