Probably a rather easy one but I’ve wanted to do one of these so here goes! I’ll post the grade soon.

65 in that solid gasket holder, could get a + or go 66 if submitted today.

Wooooha! Did someone just say it's officially "TACO™" Tuesday????
Retiring at 55, what day is today?
NGC would grade that MS66.

Why wouldn’t or shouldn’t PCGS do the same?

I'll go 65, and nice coin BTW!
considering 10 people guessed already, should I reveal the grade?

Because each company has their own standards. I'm pretty familiar with NGC's Morgan dollar grading so I feel I can discern the difference in this case.
66
Sorry, I guess I didn’t phrase my question well. What about the pictures causes you to think PCGS wouldn't also grade the coin 66?

This got a surprising amount of guesses!

Here’s the final grade:
MS65
Should I attempt to cross it over or keep it in the old holder?
(Congrats to @vplite , @ElDorado (Thanks for the compliment, I’m glad you like the coin!), @ajaan , @coinbuf , @pursuitofliberty , & @ikenefic )

I would send it to CAC and hope for a gold bean, less expense and risk (see the steel cent thread) and a bigger upside if it did get a gold bean.

I'm a little skeptical of the photography. Liberty's cheek and jaw seems to have some very light chatter and there are a few other marks such as near the temple and then a number of other really minor hits spread around. This is the kind of coin that I have bought a few times in an NGC 66 holder thinking it is good enough to straight cross to PCGS only to be rejected. I think for a 66 PCGS needs devices to be a tad cleaner.
Thanks very much. I don’t know how accurate the images are but based on what I can see the coin looks 65+ or 66 to me.

I don't like the wide, shallow scrape by the right star on the reverse. However, since the obverse plays a large part in determining the grade, I think it is accurately graded at MS65. I'm not sure if JA would agree, but I definitely can't see it getting a gold sticker.

Overall there are some light scuffing on the cheek and even lighter on the fields but nothing too major I don’t think

The question isn’t “Should I cross it…?”, but instead “Should I try to cross it…?”
And I see no reason to try it. Any potential added value of a PCGS or CACG holder wouldn’t make up for the cost of submission. And even though it looks like a nice coin, I don’t think there’s any way it would receive a gold sticker from CAC. I hope you won’t get caught up in crossover and regrade activities - at least until you become a lot more knowledgeable about coins and the market.

Nice coin, not enough pop and sizzle for a 66.
The economics of an attempted cross is terrible. If anything trying for a bean could become a worthwhile shot, but only if you can keep the costs down.
It's a nice looking coin, but as @MFeld said I see no reason to try a cross ... at all.

If I were to find a dealer who could send it in, do you think it’d have a shot at a green bean? Not that it’d be totally worth it but I would love to see it with one.
As for crossovers, I don’t wish to do any unless I have an issue with the grade OR slab (unless I had a subscription to any specific company)

I think it would have an excellent chance at a green sticker but that would be a waste of money. It sounds like you’re not focused on your coins for what they are.

I am and I love the coins I have, but since people have brought it up, it does make a me a little curious.

Definitely a nice coin, but it's certainly not a 6 in my opinion. It's possible it could earn a green bean as a 5, but I wouldn't say it's a lock for a green sticker at all -- plus, if it got a green, the juice is likely not worth the squeeze, as mentioned by others. Enjoy it for what it is, a very nice, higher grade common date Morgan!
The coin looks perfect the way it is. If you want to get it to CAC I do blame you on bit.
I like this coin alot.

I definitely agree! I haven’t seen many 66 Morgans (most of mine are 63-64, this is my only 65). It is a very nice coin IMO that I do honestly really enjoy. I might search for more 65 Morgans but until then I’ll keep trying (yet struggling) to control myself..!

Plenty of resources on the forums here to do all of that (seeing more pictures of MS66 Morgans, searching for more MS65 Morgans, and generally learning more about grading Morgans and the nuances of 5's vs. 6's and others). Good luck with the collection, glad you're enjoying it all which is the most important thing!
Lots of great advice here and I agree... my first impression was MS65 with really clean cheek, but there a little chatter on Ms. Liberty's neck and quite a bit of chatter under the Eagle's wing to the right... that, and I can't get a sense for the amount of frost in the devices and luster... all of which really matter going from 5 to 6 (and beyond?)...
As others have already noted... I'd keep it as a nice gem common date Morgan... and I might add, one to compare other coins to as a yardstick for grading.

Definitely good advice here. And I agree, having coins as grading tools is very useful!

General question to anyone wanting to answer, should I repurpose this thread so it’s not limited to just the one coin? Imo it seems like a waste to just have it die after the grade is revealed.
"Another day, another Collectors Universe forum scrolling session."

Like it. It definitely appears PQ.
My suggestion would be to not repurpose this thread. That could lead to confusion and it wouldn’t attract the comments and feedback that a new thread with a new title, might.
It’s the nature of guess the grade threads that they eventually die, just like most other threads do.😉
Mark Feld* of Heritage Auctions*Unless otherwise noted, my posts here represent my personal opinions.
If I were to repurpose this thread I assure you it’d be retitled! 😅
I do get that all threads die eventually though. There’s so many long-lasting ones that are fun though that I think it’d be great to contribute one to the forum so that others can join in! (I do just want one set GTG thread, I miss the old one!) But you know much more than I do on the ways of the forum! 🙂

And if you retitled the thread, it would be confusing, with all of the replies to the original thread subject that would appear before any new replies.

my experience has been that people generally don't get new material if it's outside the op or the first reply
just make a new thread. there's no thread conservation efforts on here
