I have piles of old PCGS boxes...where can they go....
Choices:
- Toss....not very responsible
- Sell on Ebay for ~ $0, but shipping is is somewhat high....$30 to ship 5 boxes to the furthest US zone (not including Alaska or Hawaii)
Give away locally? There is a coin shop near me but they are swimming in them as well.
Will PCGS take them back? Any other ideas?
Thanks, Keoj

I think PCGS will re-use them if you send your submissions in them. So that's a way to keep the number of them from growing further.
I could be wrong though.

You can list them on the buy-sell-trade forum here and there might be some people who want them that would cover the shipping cost.
Occasionally, I'll include one for free with the sale of a PCGS slabbed coin. Happy customers.
I've sent coins in the box back to PCGS for a reholder service, etc.
Also in the past I have sent coins in the box to a stickering service.
Leave at show entry table with sign take one free.
The go fast. Many collectors dont have them.
I keep seeing them sell for $20 plus shipping in various auctions.- some 'varieties' seem in demand. How many are in your piles?
Some colors sell better than others. I have gifted several at coin show tables.

Hope you dont mind my using this thread to ask a dumb question - are there any slab boxes that cover PCGS/NGC/ANACS etc?
PCGS does not take back their own boxes to reuse. I think it is cheaper for them to make new ones rather than spend the time to receive old ones and prepare them for use again.

Actually, I just purchased a CAC box for this exact purpose. It DOES hold both PCGS and NGC (and presumably others). I grabbed mine on eBay for under $20 with shipping. I generally collect only PCGS coins but have a handful of others that I wanted to keep all together. Hope this helps.
@keoj
People will pay up for Mint green, Dark green and Gold color boxes!
The rest like mentioned above set out at the entry to a show..
Unless you have one of the in-demand colors, put them into your recycling bin for weekly pickup.
As mentioned the new CAC slab boxes will hold every slab, however, small slabs like the small white ANACS or rattler holders require an insert as they are too small. Which is a problem with all slab boxes. There are a few people making 3D printed inserts for these smaller slabs, there was someone here on the BST offering them, not sure if he still is.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Thanks!
Donate to local coin club. They could sell to raise funds or put in raffle as a prize.
Thanks everyone for the comments!
I bought a bunch of the 35th PCGS one time use with strapping tape bits for $5 a pop and 12 or more got free delivery off fleabay. Did that twice. They used fed ex ground. Then I needed more but did not care about colors and found new PCGS without strapping tape at the WIZARD for like $6.39 and flat $10 to ship which was fed ex ground. Also got my CAC boxes in cool white cardboard slip sleeves from them $11.ish. I like inset logo details on lid thus I do not own any NGC. Thought about the double thick NGC as they are $13 ish but I do just not like raised scratchable details on lid. And my double thick slabs all fit just fine into the Lighthouse grande pages I use which are $6.79 per 2. The pages also work well with 2&1/2 and small anacs and really anything I care to slip into 2&1/2 saflips like stapled 2x2 and 1&1/2s
Bottom line, collectors like plastic boxes, when you sell them do so in bulk and use fed ex ground
I've seen PCGS orange hammer for $200 used.
Other goofy colors are valuable too, black or blue are common.
transport the whole kit and caboodle into the Klingon engine room, where they'll be no tribble at all.
^This^. THKS!

PCGS boxes are great for PCGS slabs. The newer, thicker slabs don’t fit in NGC boxes.
Gave mine away for zero on BST and buyer paid shipping. Leaving them on a coin show table with a "take one free", I do that with old auction catalogs and magazines and they are usually gone by the time I leave the show.
it's crackers to slip a rozzer the dropsy in snide
Use quite a few for hardware and miscellaneous stuff - they are a convenient size and stack well.
Others, I've sold cheaply on ebay just to keep them out of the landfill.
Wow! I can never find them; not even at shows. I usually end up spending $25 to buy them brand new from PCGS.

I use mine to transport, especially to auctions.
I bought a whole box of black ones about a year ago from a forum member. Should be easy to liquidate.
I’ve got a bunch of graded modern coins as well as miscellaneous boxes that have value but frankly not worth the trouble selling. All will be donated to a local club. Beginners, YN’s, modern collectors should be interested.
I give them away - coin club. Have gone to CACG slab boxes as they can take all 5 TPG.
Once took 5 slab boxes NGC, PCGS to give away at show - guy and his son came up - they took all of them.
I keep a bunch of them but once I have too many I toss them in the garbage. It’s too time consuming for me to pack them up and make a trip to the post office to either give away or try and make a few dollars.
Heading to a coin show in Manchester NH tomorrow with a " FREE" sign.
You can do this with some of them
I forgot I posted this until just now.

I have sold them on the BST and on ebay for postage cost (now only $10 to $15 to ship 4 or 5 of them with Ground Advantage if you use ebay label, Paypal shipping, or Pirateship). They go fast in my experience.
I am headed out to a local coin show this afternoon and am going to drop off about a dozen or such for donations.

Thanks for the Coin Show suggestion. A group of 20 boxes "disappeared" in 4 hours with a FREE sign.
I agree with what @ambro51 said - fill ‘em up! Doesn’t just have to be PCGS though; ANACS’ newer blue and yellow label coins seemingly fit as well; they’ll be a bit uncomfortable, but they do fit nicely! 🙂
(Course a lot of people here probably already know this..!)
