Hey @johnny9434 and @Twobitcollector . Do you have an other date of an Ike to post? @lordmarcovan pointed out for today that the Bicentennial Ike’s will be covered as a separate slot after the Gold coins. No big deal though, as those you’ve shown are lovely.
A day without fine wine and working on your coin collection is like a day without sunshine!!!
I sold this 1973 MS66 PCGS Ike dollar many moons ago, but I loved it for two reasons. First, the 1973-P and -D Ikes were Mint-set-only issues, and this particular Ike I always believed was the most beautifully toned Ike I ever owned.

Haven't posted to this thread since the day of the Seated Quarters. This is one I owned and sold at a recent local show.

Our album lineup puts the small dollars (Susan B. Anthony and Sacagawea, anyway) out of sequence towards the end, after the Bicentennial coins, for some reason. So now we begin our journey into the... gold!
Today's type is the Gold Dollar, Type I (1849-54).
I'm discovering a lot of quirks with this Registry set lineup we're working from. Not only are the Bicentennial coins and the small dollars out of sequence, but the set also skips the Type II gold dollar! It only includes the Type I and Type III.
So if you want, today you may also post any Gold Dollar, Type II (1854-56) that you have. Let's do all the Type I and Type II coins.
My Type I coin is an AU58. Aside from the Type I and Type II gold dollars (both AU58), all the rest of my post-1836 gold is in Mint State. For that reason, I would like to upgrade my Type I and Type II gold dollars to MS eventually, though for now, AU58s are satisfactory. Here is my Type I. I paid $370 for it in 2021 or 2022. Current PCGS trend price is $550. I think I bought most of my gold at a pretty good time, just before spot prices soared.
Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.
Here is my Type II. The coin did not have any TrueView images, so I sent it in for that, but I was too cheap to pay a reholder fee and had them shoot the TrueViews through the plastic. I won't do that again. You can see the slab prongs in these pictures. Oh well.
I paid $600 for this coin in 2021 or 2022. It is now worth $1,000 today, according to the PCGS priceguide.
Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.
I believe the reason they left out a slot for the $1 Gold Type 2 is because it is a much tougher (more expensive) design than the Type 1 and 3. Same rationale for having left out a slot for the Bust Dollar and the Draped coins.
Like you, @lordmarcovan , I got lucky by working on my Gold Type Set roughly seven years ago. If I was putting that set together today, the grades I’d buy would be slightly lower.
Here’s my Type 1:
Steve
A day without fine wine and working on your coin collection is like a day without sunshine!!!
The Type 2 Gold Dollars were often lightly/weakly struck. Maybe our friend @BillJones knows the reason why?
I didn’t have the patience to wait for one with a strong strike, so you can easily see the weak strike in mine on the reverse, along with clash marks, since these are so thin. Surprisingly, despite those two shortcomings, my MS63 got a plus via Reconsideration. But my Type 1 shown above failed to get a plus.

The design was often weakly struck because the relief of the bust of Ms. Liberty was too high for a thin coin. This was the first gold dollar which made with the 15 mm planchet. Previously it had been 13 mm.
I will post a picture of a full struck piece when I can get on my desktop.

This 1855 gold dollar is the best stuck one I have. It has many clash marks. The grade is MS-63.
The reverse of this 1855-D gold dollar is "hammered," but it is a Dahlonega coin. I don't think that any Philadelphia Mint coin, short of a Proof, is as well struck as this.

Good morning. It is Saturday, March 21st. Welcome to Spring, everyone!
Today's type is the Gold Dollar, Type III (1856-89).
Here is my current type coin.
Here is my former type coin, a PCGS MS64 with lightly iridescent toning and prominent clashmarks. @asheland owns it now. The only reason I sold this one is because Terry twisted my arm really hard at a time when I was contemplating a downsizing. (Such whims have frequently resulted in seller's remorse for me later.) Oh well. Reckon I won't be getting this one back. At least the Hansen specimen I replaced it with is one grade point higher.
Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.
My Type 3 is a super common date, which allowed me, back in 2018, to afford this high grade. I bought it from Katherine and Dan Duncan of Pinnacle Rarities (no longer in business - Dan is now with U.S. Coin in Houston). Our @BillJones very recently posted photos of some super nice Type 3’s of his in better dates, on a post elsewhere on this forum. We’ll all enjoy those if he posts those here later today.
Here’s mine. The photo with the label shows great detail, but couldn’t accurately capture the luster. The two larger photos by Dan does. Unfortunately, older dies were used on many 1889’s. You can see a vertical die crack on the left side of the reverse (I believe fresher dies struck Bill’s coins, which is good):
