A Hunt Concluded - the 1855-D G$1

With an original mintage of only 1,811 & a population estimated at less than 100 today, this was a long journey & a search for the ages. Indeed, the PCGS total pop numbers 68; invariably there’s some duplication within that number. Following are some pics of the “find”:

There are many highlights to this piece. On the obv, the U in UNITED is roughly visible; in most examples, it’s not. The surfaces show no major detractions & support the 55 grade. Color is as expected for the 55-D. The rev is special with great detail & a fully struck date. The latter is rare. As is usual with the 55-D, there are numerous areas of clashing. As that is typical, it’s not a detriment to the quality of the coin.
Finally, this piece was formerly the “Winter Plate Coin”. I think that reinforces how special the coin is.

@Copperindian, I’m glad your quest succeeded in a win for you Ken! Very nice outcome Sir. Quite an expensive endeavor, and only 12 in the 55 range, with only 15 higher! Congrats my friend! Zack.
Woah,nice!
Congrat's Ken! What a solid example of a wonderful rarity ... and a pretty cool provenance to boot!

I just came across this article which explains “the gold” used at this date; the alloy situation very interesting. https://goldrushgallery.com/dahlmint/c_history_7.html

Gorgeous coin! Congrats.
I am jealous. And with the full date reverse, which is very tough to find.

Though attractive it was too high a relief for that thin planchet,
Great coin, congratulations on acquiring it!
