My one and only Barber Half which is really worth much. I was looking to complete a 1913 Proof set and the half dollar was the last coin I needed. A dealer at a PCGS luncheon said he had one, and I bought it. It's a PR-64.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Thanks... it was sort of an impulse buy on my part. The WLH in my album was literally pulled from a bargain bin back when silver was around $5/oz. I think it was less than $3 and covered in PVC... several acetone baths later... that's the result. I'd been meaning to upgrade this coin for some time...
Collecting: Dansco 7070; Middle Date Large Cents (VF-AU); Box of 20;
Here's my Walker half. It is probably the only time I've had a better-date, semi-key coin that was also high enough grade to be a good type set example.
Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.
Our type today is the Franklin half dollar (1948-1963).
Here are two I have in my giveaway inventory. Nothing earthshaking, but not bad, either.
My all-time "best of type" was this DCAM proof in an OGH, which was part of my old Registry 20th Century type set more than 20 years ago. (Images were done on a flatbed scanner.)
Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.
Once I completed my “Type Set” about seven years ago or so, I asked myself, “What’s next?” I decided to significantly broaden my collection by putting together many other sets, focusing where possible, on sets that did not require a large number of coins. One of those sets is a Proof Franklin set, which requires only 14 coins to complete. Here’s one of those coins. For those interested, that is followed by a hotlink to my Proof Franklin set.

This refers of course to only the 90% silver coins from 1964. The Registry set lineup that we're using lumps all the later 40% silver coins in with the clads. It does not distinguish the 40% silver clads from the copper-nickel clads. But that's an issue we'll deal with tomorrow. Today is just the 1964 Kennedies.
Confession: Kennedy halves bore me to tears. All I have on hand right now are some I got in bullion lots. Actually, I got the spotty one from a bank roll, for face value, so that's good, anyway. Might be the only time I got excited about a Kennedy half. LOL
For my all-time "best of type", I had to go look back at my 20th Century type set in the Registry archives from more than 20 years ago. Not that it's worth looking at, in this wretched image. My old flatbed scanner didn't handle proof mirrors very well.

Here's the piece from my 7070 album. I got this from circulation when I was about 12 yo and mowing lawns for a living. It was in the first iteration of my 7070 when I got my coins back after my mom moved from the childhood home when she retired and I've had it in this album ever since...

Priceless, then.

Today we continue with the Kennedy halves, and our type for the day is the Kennedy Half Dollar Clad (1965-Date).
Now, I don't know about the physical Dansco 7070 album (I haven't had one of those in a few years), but note that the Registry type set lineup we're working from does not distinguish the silver clad (1965-69) Kennedies from the later (1970-present) copper-nickel clad subtype.
So you may post any 1965 or later Kennedy half with the regular design. NOT the Bicentennial half, though. That type comes much later in the lineup- and out of sequence. You see, the three types of Bicentennial coins are represented much farther down in the "album" lineup. We will get to them after we've done all the gold coins.
I presently own no post-1965 Kennedy halves except in my change jar. Here are two that I used to own.
I had this one as part of a never-completed 1965 SMS (birthyear) set I was working on. I sold it but would like to find another with attractive toning someday.
Here is one from my ancient Registry type set from 20 years ago (you know, the one with all the wretched scans for images. LOL) This is likely my all-time "best of type" example, as I do not recall ever owning a PR69- or -70 DCAM.
Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.
