Coins with Maps

I always have been amazed at coins with maps, but this one of NYC prior to the WTC being rebuilt, is the best of them all because of the detail.

What is interesting about this coin is that I got it in Amsterdam near the Albert Cuyp mall at an old time coin dealer. He was like the last Jewish man in that area and dealt in coins and stamps at the retail level. This was sitting in his window, although I already owned a proof version of this coin. We talked for about an hour and this is what I walked out of the store with. It was sitting in the sunlight for a long while.

It’s a neat theme. The fingerprint-pattern map is cool.

The Dutch thought so.. some disagreed with the coin on political grounds.

<what is that map in the background? I've never seen anything like that.>

It's a map I found on-line a few years back that attempted to map the different main cultural groups that seemed to me in these modern times more representative of us than State boundaries.

The declaration argued that governments exist by and for the people with citizens obligated to overthrow a tyrannical government.

The Rhode Island Ship Token was a British propaganda piece ridiculing American revolutionary forces as they flee from the British in 1778 across Aquidneck Island. The contour of the island is depicted in the token.

ITALIAN STATES | NAPLES & SICILY 1791 AR 120GR of Ferdinand IV minted during Spanish rule. Commemorative issue for the return of Ferdinand IV to Naples.

More of a globe than a map. I've always found the exaggerated size of the Italian peninsula on this piece to be a bit comical.
