February Pickups

Back in 1969, this obscure set was probably obtained through correspondence with the artist, Rocco Malanga, who would send back four 3 card panels designed to be cut into the 12 card set. They may have been distributed another way, too (not sure), but they’re baseball card sized and feature hand sketches of prominent Yankees. These sketches also appeared in some Yankees profile pages in the 1968-69 Yearbooks. Somehow, they’re in the Standard Catalog.

1969 Yankees Malanga - Mickey Mantle

The Mantle is headed to Newport Beach as we speak. If there isn’t one there now, it will be the first graded.

Any thoughts as to what May have been altered on the Mantle card?

Not a huge pickup on this one, but a cool "full circle" pickup on my PC rebuild project. I sold this exact Thomas Elite in 2018 or 2019, serial #545/5000, so when it came up on eBay last week I just had to have it, despite the foil damage (was there when I sold it):

I also added a jersey numbered Class 3 Red Label (5/25) for my McNabb side PC:
