I Have been looking for a 1858-D Gold Dollar for about 3 years. The previous one I had was weakly struck, especially in the date, which was missing the 8 and 5 entirely. I wanted a better one. I had posted a "wanted to buy" here a few times, and someone knew someone and connected us. I have bought and sold a number of my coins on the BST. Always with great results!
So, it arrived today. I think it is one of the better strikes I have seen for this date. Even some PL highlights on the reverse.
Sorry for the poor pics. I will try to do better later. Somewhat better pics in last post.
Opinions?

Incredible Reverse!
Very nice! Looks great. Congrats!
Thanks for that observation Ambro. The reverse is amazing! An outstanding strike on what is normally a weakly struck coin. And the prooflike fields really set it off.
Here is what a typical reverse strike looks like for this date. This is a MS62. From Coinfacts.

Very nice piece!
Congrats!!!
The reverse is hammered. Great looking coin.
Congrats @liefgold! Fabulous accusation. You did well. The PCGS OGH gives it even more cachet.
Very cool !
Nothing like finally adding a neat coin after a long search......
Superb acquisition! You have some very fine coins, I love the gold dollars, one of my favorite series!
The old holder makes it that much cooler!

Nice, I dont see anything wrong here, wtg
Nice catch. The 58-D issue seems to have a lot of striking and planchet problems. By comparison, even this MS61 coin has some planchet cuts and abrasions.

I agree! I have looked for one without some problems for a long time.
Here are some slightly better pics of mine. Not perfect, but the best overall strike I have seen.
That’s a fabulous pickup LaMont - congrats!

Nice looking coin Bill. What is that one graded?
Believe it or not, it's a PCGS MS-61, CAC. I bought it for my Dahlonega Mint type coin set. It looks better in person.
Wow! I believe it. That is one tough to find coin. Yours and another in 62 are the only MS CAC approved 58-D's in existence. Only 6 of 181 graded in AU or MS got the sticker. Apparently, CAC is very tough on these, Congrats!
