The B1G news is the Badgers pickup of Colton Joseph. Badgers with a QB gets them into the middle tier in the conference again.

    Good pickup.

I wonder if the NCAA is going to try some kind of a fix to all the things wrong with the football season which are screwed up?? While they have been looking to expand the playoff over the past 25 years the only thing considered is the TV revenue and the sanctity of the biggest bowl games.

    If I was in charge:
JMHO, but it’s really screwed up right now. What would I fix???
Start the playoff games after the Conference Championships. Play them all Saturdays.
Adjust the Semi’s and the Natty for Christmas and New Year’s Day.
Pick regular Bowls for the playoff games, too bad if a site gets left out or has an earlier date. The Bowls that put up a fight can keep their sacred date and have a game like Harvard vs. Dyke Business School.
No more College football games after New Year’s Day.
Any Coaches caught talking to other schools before January 5th are heavily sanctioned($$$) or banned for 2 seasons. No more Lane Kiffin BS.
Since players are eligible to be paid and many are being paid they should be treated as pro’s. No more Opt Outs. Players cannot talk to other programs about a transfer or declare for the NFL until January 5th. If they get caught it’s a one year suspension and/or fine.
The Transfer Portal opens on January 10th and closes at 4PM on January 31st.
On June 1st of every year all things are closed. Where you are is where you stay for that season.

Anyone else want to play along?? 😁

I would make it 16 teams, so they could get rid of the bye weeks. 7 out of the 8 teams that had bye weeks the first two years, looked like garbage after the long layoff.

Start the regular season at the beginning of August. Finish the regular season and conference title games not later than Thanksgiving. Pick the 12 or 16 playoff teams for the CFP the day after Thanksgiving. Start the playoffs (round 1) the first weekend in December, have the second and third rounds the following two weekends and have the national title game on New Years Day.

Build and fill out everything else around this structure.

Starting earlier is a good solution, but the easiest is to just start limiting who can be scheduled. OSU paying Grambling 1 million to lose brings in no revenue and is a waste of everyone time. Could easily cut off a week or two of the season that would have no impact on revenue for tv and be a net positive for schools not paying 6 or 7 figures for a team to come lose. That would either shorten the season or those games can be replaced with an expanded playoff or bigger games that would increase revenue.

Most of the big time programs the guys arent really there for school anyways, but its still crazy to have guys on playoff teams entering the portal and having to to transfer after the spring semester already started

Funny that would single out OSU when so many schools do exactly that. It’s why you get so much grief, your hatred and bias are thick.

Funny that you cant understand that what I said was you could take a week or 2 off the season which means all schools do it. Grambling is just the most egregious example

His point was why single out Ohio State, when ALL the big schools, including those from the sec, do the same thing.

I also dont like the idea of starting earlier. If you're a player, who wants to play a game all padded up in 98 degree heat?

Its called an example. Grambling isnt even an FBS team and they werent even that good of team in their conference.

Its a waste of every ones time and everyone does it, Not really to that extent but everyone does it. Removing games like that where third stringers could win it is the easiest way to shorten the season or bring more revenue and have a timeline that makes more sense.

    Stat of the day.

    Miami - 45 4/5 star players

    Indiana - 8 4/5 star players

Going by that stat Miami should win easily. Its not even close.

I forget exactly the quote, but it’s been repeated ad nauseum that Cignetti isn’t interested in a players potential, he’s more interested in what a player has already done. That’s been the basis for how he built Indiana and how he’s been successful at each school he’s led.

    Charlotte
    Austin Peay
    Marshall
    Eastern Illinois
    LA-Monroe

Just the “Grambling” opponents faced by the teams that played in the SEC Championship, but you just picked Ohio State out of a hat. 😂😂
And you wonder why you get so much push back and why people think you’re a tool. Consider what Rodney King said.

What dont you understand about everyone does it and if you move teams schedules around you can shorten the season by a week or two instead of these stupid games paying a team a million dollars to lose that you make no money off of and arent even on tv?

Why does everything turn into a defensive conference debate with you two?

Just watched some ESPN videos from last weekend and it’s gonna be a tough off-season for the SEC. They’re still trying to come to terms with what’s changed in College football. After the dust settles when Monday’s game is over and all the coaching and player movement is finished it’ll be fun to see the 2026 projections.

I figure the teams will adjust easier than the fans and media. Today’s NCAA isn’t the same as even 3-4 years ago and fans along with the media need to wake up to that.

Please give us more regular season inter-conference play, not less. That only insulates a conference from reality.

Here is what you said: OSU paying Grambling 1 million to lose brings in no revenue and is a waste of everyone time.

Why don't you grumble about Grambling playing LSU in 2023 and what a waste of time that was. How much do you think the Tigers paid them???

"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety," --- Benjamin Franklin

  • bgrbgr Posts: 3,846 ✭✭✭✭✭

It’s one of the primary ways these smaller programs fund their athletic departments. So there’s some negative outcome if these games go away.

Whether it’s OSU or LSU it’s not a good game even if it’s important for those schools. I don’t even know why we’re talking about OSU or LSU as neither school is relevant this year.

    @Maywood

laugh if you want, but 65 would have been traumatized for an extended period of time had Miami blown down the field and scored a touchdown, which they had ample time to do. and the only reason they had ample time to do so is because the kid couldn't hold his water. they needed one yard to put Miami to sleep and had three opportunities to do so. the game was all but over. best case scenario, the Canes would have had 15-20 seconds with no timeouts. but when he jumped, all of a sudden they were afforded 1:40..........an eternity.

like i said, i'm glad it didn't come to that. would have been the most ill-timed false start in recent memory and a brutal way to crush a magical season

simply being disciplined can win a lot of games and avoid a lot of heartache.........Indiana should know

Hilarious? Hardly. Strategic disrespect of Iowa. I bet it’s because of how over-ranked OSU was all year. A barely top-10 team all season not winning a single game in the playoffs. Bad team in a terrible state. The WORST.
