I didn't know #4 was that tall.....is he going pro?

Jeremiah Smith is 6’5” tall and has to play one more year before he can enter the NFL draft, which he probably will after next season.

Back to Nick Saban. One thing he understood was the value of team speed, he always had that. During that shellacking of Ohio State the Buckeyes had no defender who could match Davonte Smith and they paid dearly for it.

Didnt help that half the team couldnt play due to covid. That year will always have an asterisk.

Did OSU have lots of opt outs?

    Yup, their Offensive coordinator.

I meant players. So is that the excuse then? Hartline left and Day is a donkey?

Hartline is known as one of the best assistant coaches in college football. Big loss.

Yes he is. He made a shrewd move to jump off the sinking ship that is OSU. 2 losses in a row headed into 2026. Will they be in the top 10 after they play Texas and Indiana? Probs not.

    Cue taps.

Did Bama take better care of their team than OSU did?

That COVID virus was/is a strange one, really no telling who will get sick. I've never had it but I have friends who've been down 2-3 times. Some say it wasn't that bad but I had friends who died from it. I see my PCP twice a year and whenever she asks if I want the latest COVID vaccine I always say yes.................Shingles and Flu are a hard no. No telling why some teams were affected more harshly by COVID, but one thing is certain, one case could take out a whole team.

Sinking ship? They didnt get blown away like Bama. LOL They have a lot of talent coming back next year. Chances are, they will be playoff bound again.

And its always a good year when they beat their rival.

Guess I hit a nerve. When they lose to Texas and Indiana they can start looking towards that meeting vs. Michigan.... but Whoops! Sneak attack from Iowa at Kinnick! and OSU starts the season 2-3 with Michigan, Oregon and USC at the Coliseum on the horizon. OSU fans are going to need therapy.

Im not worried. Indiana will be losing a ton of seniors and Buckeyes always reload. Texas on the road will be a tough game.

I think a lot of kids will be drawn to Cignetti especially if they win it all, I doubt it will be as strong a reload as OSU, Georgia ect but I bet Indy will get a lot more looks than years past

  • MaywoodMaywood Posts: 3,913 ✭✭✭✭✭

Good point @perkdog. We will get to see how good Cignetti is at recruiting now that he's HC with a Power 4 team and quite probably a Natty. Most teams lose anywhere from 10-30 seniors each year. Just how many are key players is what matters. Michigan went through this after they won it all and didn't reload very well. Mendoza will be gone but his brother will probably start in his place!! Pretty cool.

I like Ole Miss over Miami in another close one. Chambliss won't be a sitting target.

    .

After the Kiffin BS I'd have to say Ole Miss is the sentimental favorite. Miami will bring pressure but Chambliss is way, way more mobile than Sayin who looked like he was wearing lead boots. On top of that he's an accurate thrower.

Indiana and Oregon should be interesting. I believe the Ducks will test the Hoosiers because Moore is also mobile and it might be a shoot-out, but I think Indiana wins. They seem like a team of destiny to me.

Can't wait for whoever plays in the Natty. I wish Ohio State had won but I think I enjoy the games more when they aren't playing if that makes sense. I can watch without an emotional stake in the outcome.

The assistant coach saga at Ole Miss, and whether or not they will be at LSU does factor into this game. It's a distraction even if they say otherwise at their press conferences. This game is interesting because Chambliss is a much better passer than Marcel Reed of Texas A&M, so when he scrambles he can create downfield. Ole Miss can score, but their defense is the worst by far of the four teams left. Miami gives up 84 yards per game on the ground. Ole Miss gives up 150 yards per game. Miami will move the ball on them, and they will move the ball on us with their up tempo offense. Miami will put pressure on Chambliss, but getting to him, and affecting him is the big question. Miami has the best pass rush in the country, so we will see. It should be a close, great game.

Here are some other thoughts to annoy the regulars on this threads. B)

Mario Cristobal left Oregon, which was a better job at the time, to rebuild Miami where he and his brother played under Coach Johnson. Mario's parents left Cuba to start a life in Miami. Miami is Mario's home. To say that he would take the OhIo State job if it was available is laughable.

As far the Cotton Bowl, Offenses sell tickets, Defenses win Championships. For old Canes fans like myself that game was revenge for that B.S. pass interference 23 years ago. I have been reading this thread without commenting, and it very satisfying to shut up the experts who said Miami would get dogwalked, including Urban Meyer who said 14 points would be enough to win. Shut up Urban, and go get another lap dance.

Despite how much I despise the Suckeyes, Maywood and Coolstanley are correct that the Big Ten is the stronger conference this year from top to bottom. As an ACC person I'm well aware that we are behind the other two conferences, and I don't really get into supporting the conference thing. Living in North Carolina nobody cares about football here, and with Clemson and FSpoo down Miami is going to continue to climb back to relevance. Miami is not back until we win a championship, but when you have Jeremiah Smith saying,"I would stayed home if The [][] was playing at this level, this shows how college football goes in cycles. Bama will decline, as Deboar is making that program soft. Lane will make LSU a power again, and Ole Miss and Georgia will continue to be top 10 programs for the foreseeable future. Indiana got it right with Cignetti, and are a great story. Oregon is a top ten program, and Ohio State is not going away like some mentioned on this board. They just won a national title, and they still have enough pieces to make a run at the title next year with fixes on the o-line, and someone more accurate than me kicking the ball. To sum this up your conference rants are amusing (both sides), because as you all yell it just means more, and whatever slogan the B1G has, The [][] has a message for the college football world.

College football analyst Joel Klatt doesn't like how ESPN is the exclusive home for Playoff games.
"Let’s face it, it’d be better if every network was giving an A-level broadcast versus a single presenter, in particular when that single presenter has a deep relationship with just one conference within college football.

Perhaps it's because my team isn't relevant and hasn't been for so long. In this particular season I find myself rooting for Indiana at this point.

If I was an OSU fan I suppose I would prefer that Miami wins it all now... at least I can say my team was ousted by the National Champs. While I think the conference rivalry stuff is silly, it's constantly manufactured in social media, and when I consider that most of coolstan's posts are random dude tweets I suspect he's setting screen time records for his age bracket scrolling through that brain-rot on the daily.

I get that Indiana isnt really anyones rival in football at this point, but I just cannot understand the mindset of rooting for someone that just beat you or beat the team youre a fan of. That just gives your program excuses.

Your case is a little different because yea they havent been irrelevant for a while now, but OSU had national title hopes and theyve rooted for Michigan before

Say Indiana wins it all then OSU gets to say we got a participation trophy whoopee. That gives OSU excuses to not make changes where if Indiana gets blown out its embarrassing to OSU which lights a fire to get better.

Theres definitely some manufactured rivalries, but also some that are very real. The low follower random tweets posts are definitely something lol

Let's hear from our SEC and B1G supporters.

Bama fans are you rooting for Auburn or LSU?
Ohio St fans are you rooting for Michigan or Penn St?

I would never root for FSU, or most of the ACC. I have attended road games around the conference, and most of the conference really does not like Miami, and will let you hear about it in a way that I don't want my 8 year old to hear, so I could care less if they win their bowl game or not. There are only about 3-4 ACC teams I might have some conference affinity for.
