This is not a true overdate. It's probably just a defect/artifact of the date punch. The TPGs now commonly put the 1/0 in quotes, and lot descriptions say "so-called". As mrhalfdime (Steve Crain) said, this is perhaps the most overrated half dime variety because it does not exist!

Colombia 20 Centavos, 1947/5. Many Colombian coins from the late 1940s are overdates, this one shows the under digit stronger than most.

Nice contribution! The 42/41-D was a sleeper for a long time. The Philly one was way more dramatic.

This coin had been sitting in the Whitman album since possibly the 40's :o
Found it after buying an old guys collection.
I did send it to our host and here are the results...

Wait a minute! So you think it was sitting in an album since the 40's and no one knew it was a 42/1? And the old guy didn't know it either? Although, on the other hand... If it had been in an album since the 40's, she would have been in MUCH better condition.

The reason I was asking if it was raw.... An acetone bath may have helped the obv. Thanks for the feedback.

Cool. Appreciate the insight. I simply view it as a variety.

I had this graded 3 months ago. The slab reads 1861 ‘1/0’. I paid for variety attribution and was fine with it whether it’s a true overdate or a variety. CAC just stickered it fwiw.

I’m not a “true overdate” collector by any means. Just offering up what I had to participate in the thread.

Are there any examples where other/more then just the right most digit being mis-struck. Maybe a 50 over a 49 or something like that? There may have been an example of this in the previous postings but I didn't spot it, so appologies if this question has already been answered..

Thanks for the repost. Now that I know what to look for I spotted it although I had to have to zoom in.

@drddm and @pursuitofliberty those are beautiful 15/2s! Someday I’ll pick one up but they’re tough to find nice.

Thanks @GuzziSport, and that is certainly the case, especially when it comes to this date!

I bought my first 15/2 in 2009 (a PCGS XF45) and was looking for a nicer upgrade till I found my AU55 last year. Patience is definitely key!
