I have several very nice early copper coins from the collection of Robert “Bobby” Martin, but this VT RR-25 is the only pic at the moment. This coin is IMO incredibly charming, despite the natural flaws.
I also had a beautiful CT Scholar Head out of the Martin sale, but I sold it in a fit of temporary insanity.
I have a lot of respect for the Martin pedigree, along with Partrick.

Ex: John Work Garrett Collection (Stack's, 3/1976)/lot 602; Believed to be previously from a Sampson sale of the Mid 1870’s
This piece holds particular importance due to its provenance as part of the renowned David Cassel collection. David did an extensive study of the US pattern postage currency coins. This piece is displayed as his coin #18 on his Plate #14 – Category II. Dies 1-B, Cracks in his 2000 book.
In the Steve Ivy Oct 1983 ( The Clarmont Sale) Lot #4586, The catalog reads
_J-644 1868 PROOF (63) Piece de Caprice Mule in Nickel. R.E. 30.86 grams. (R-7; 8 to 10 known.) Long believed to represent a Pattern issue, we believe that this was one of the surreptitious issues struck by Linderman and Snowden in the late 1860’s as a concocted rarity for collectors. This piece is fully brilliant but shows striking weakness at 2:00 on the obverse as well as a planchet flaw below N in ONE on the reverse. Nonetheless, it is above average for the issue. Ex AUCTION 82: 1814, Garrett (Stack’s, 1976): 602. Original provenance unknown but felt to be from a Sampson Sale of the early 1870’s, _

Morgenthau, Floyd T. Starr, Roy E. Naftzger, Jr., Eric Streiner, Twin Leaf Collection Sale by Stack's, July 2015. A very impressive list of heavy hitters in the copper world. PCGS Proof 64 Brown with 5 known.
@GuzziSport: I didn’t ask, but my guess would be he thought it should be BN, not RB. There’s nothing wrong with the coin, but I think a case could be made for the BN designation.

While not in high grade nor extremely rare, its from the Norweb cabinet. Bought it quite some time ago. Just love the originality. The 1828 Large date is a very scarce variety to find that has not been cleaned or messed with. Norweb settled with an AU so I just love it and have it as a keeper.

Amusing side note: the seller of this piece knows Link personally & simply calls him “Chuck”. Provenance indeed!

I fell into a trap in this blog thinking everyone might have some knowledge about the prior named collectors when in fact we may not. I focus on patterns so many of the Pedigreeds' I know over lap with other areas of Numismatics (i.e. Garrett, JJ Pitman, Bass etc) but in some cases I have no idea of who collectors were, especially a specialist. Some nice pieces were shared by lordmarcovan above, however, I have no knowledge of most of the collectors such as Wolff-Metternich Collection or the Long Island Collection? Might be an educational moment to put a few Bio lines when we post,
