And yet another god awful game from McCarthy

Jefferson will be causing problems soon I'm thinking, he won't want to be wasted in that situation

    I hope not.

I'm curious how other rookie QB's did in their first year as a starter.

I remember Marino was great right away.

Going back, I see HOFer Terry Bradshaw completed 38% of his passes his first year with 6 TD's and TWENTYFOUR INT's.

    Eli Manning 48% completions, 6 TD's and 9 INT.

    John Elway 48%, 7 TD's, 14 INT.

Drew Brees in his SECOND year as a starter, 2-9 record, 11TD's and 15 INT.

    Troy Aikman 0-11 record, 53% completions. 9 TD's, 18 INT.

I guess J J is in good company.

I love that you are keeping the faith

All those guys you listed did have a rough go of it so yes McCarthy isn't the first rookie to struggle

I haven't seen many Vikings highlights since I dumped Red Zone

    >
    >
I have said all along that the Vikings probably weren't going to go with Darnold if he was going to get long term contract offers.
When Daniel Jones signed here, I thought that was going to be our QB for this year. That's what I would have preferred.

As far as "keeping the faith" goes, he has occasionally shown some great talent. As I pointed out several Hall of Fame/Super Bowl winning QB's had horrible years to begin their careers. It's not unheard of for a QB to get better.

I am NOT predicting he's going to lead us to the promised land. He might be hurt AGAIN, that would be upsetting.
O'Connell is an idiot for not adjusting the offense away from all the downfield passes, I haven't seen a quick slant pass since he became head coach.

The offensive line was supposed to be better this year. Sunday's game was the first time the starters all played together, and 2 (left tackle and guard) got hurt. 5 sacks and lots of pressure on McCarthy. Yes, he does hold on to the ball for a long time, but part of that is slow developing pass routes.

Regarding my Jefferson comment, so far he hasn't been your typical elite WR with an attitude so he might continue to be a team player and as long as he continues to get paid like one I'm sure that will help

You might be right about Jefferson being upset. I'm seeing Jefferson getting a lot of "targets" when he's well covered. None of our other receivers caught a pass Sunday.
I am sick to death of selfish players. I hope Jefferson doesn't turn out that way.

As long as the Vikings don't pull the numbers game with him come contract time and mention his numbers compared to other big name guys it might be fine.

He is a 100 catch 1500 yard guy with a solid QB, this season McCarthy obviously isn't that guy but sure that could change, we will see

Jefferson just signed a 4 year $140 million contract. If he starts causing problems, he can f#&k off!

Lastly, one thing I do know. The Vikings have no clue in how to "develop" a young quarterback, but neither do a lot of teams. Just look at how well Darnold and Jones are doing this year (and last year for Darnold) when they get some experience.

GO VIKINGS. GO J J MCCARTHY!

I forgot he signed that deal

That might help him from being disgruntled lol

Its not all guaranteed. Most of it is but the NFL could avoid a lot of issues if they would fully guarantee contracts like MLB does.

Either way if hes just getting 50 yards a game like he has been with McCarthy hes going to want to be traded at some point. His 2 best games of the year by far which are about a third of his receiving yards were with Wentz at QB

I've been waiting to see what else trickles out here about Aiyuk. There has to be more to that story.

    Thats definitely a hot mess

Im guessing they part ways in one way or another

He refused to show up to meetings and that breached his contract so they voided a bunch of guaranteed money apparently.

i hate to interrupt this JJ McCarthy lovefest, but i just found out that the shawwow/slap chop/schticky guy is running for congress here in Texas

it's one of those nuggets of info you should probably just keep to yourself, but it's the sign of the apocalyse so vitally important that i just had to puke it out

you know i've heard really good things about guam

i wonder if i could enter the draftkings sportsbook there

    "LoveFest"?

    Might turn into a hatefest.

McCarthy out for next weeks game with a concussion.

Back up, Max Brosmer looked good in preseason, a lot of Vikings fans have wanted to see more of him.

If McCarthy can't stay healthy, the debate over his ability might be moot.

Vikings doing McCarthy a favor with what is almost certainly a soft benching instead of just saying its his performance

All the team Drs and NFL Drs didnt see a concussion during the game but after a terrible game he now had one and sits out next week.

For everyone complaining about the upcoming Super Bowl artist, the Detroit Lions present Jack White with special guest Eminem doing a song as he walks around the stage holding on to his package!!

Such is the music of the day.

    Green Bay looks good

    Detroit looks not great

It really amazes me that anyone would complain about music for a halftime show, I just can't understand anyone being interested in it to begin with.

I can honestly said I enjoyed a million other things rather than being glued to my seat watching a halftime show

No need to jump to conclusions. I was at the kitchen table and walked into the TV room just in time to catch the aforementioned song.

Actually, I can’t envision anyone wasting a day watching the NFL, this is only the third part of a game I’ve seen this season. Like you and halftime shows, I can’t sit and watch an NFL game anymore.

It’s always a blast watching the Lions coach turn down 3 points and then not make it on fourth down! 😂🥳

  • MaywoodMaywood Posts: 3,436 ✭✭✭✭✭

We were just talking about that. If he’d have kicked the chip-shot it would be 31-24 and they’d be driving with a shot to tie.

The Dallas defense is made of styrofoam. The Chiefs are running and passing right through it.

His incessant gadget plays to overcomplicate simple football is just moronic

We don't even need to talk about his going for it on 4th and not kicking FG's, that just speaks for itself

It’s sad because the Lions fans have years of frustration. Now they have the players, but they also have coach who is a fool. It’s like the time when the Eagles had the horses, but were stuck with Chip Kelly who played the hurry up offense almost 100% of the time. It worked a little while, but league figured his strategy out, and it turned into a disaster.

  • 2dueces2dueces Posts: 6,701 ✭✭✭✭✭

Dallas took down Philly and Kansas City in a 4 day span. KC now has a 38% chance of making the playoffs. Dallas has Detroit and then an easier schedule and might run the table and make the playoffs. Crazy year

And the Chiefs go down, yet again losing the sort of game they would have won a few years ago. Looks like right now they aren’t only in danger of not making the playoffs, they may not even finish the season above .500.

On the bright side, next season’s schedule will be easier and they’ll have higher draft picks.

It's also possible those weak teams on the schedule for next year may strengthen up their roster through trades.

Joe Burrow looked great moving around yesterday, safe to say he is fully healed for now

Their D looked so much better but it's easy to look great when the other team turns the ball over like they did, Lamar looked terrible throwing the ball

I hate Baltimore so it was great to see them lose.

KC is still not out of it imo

  • MaywoodMaywood Posts: 3,436 ✭✭✭✭✭

Burrow may have looked good moving around last night but I don't think the Bengals won because he played well. I'd like to know why the Bengals never get called for Illegal Procedure/Motion because their Left Tackle leaves early quite often, often enough that it's noticeable.

the Chiefs may find a way to Houdini themselves into the playoffs, but they're not the same team from years past

their defense isn't as good and they have no running game. it'll require Mahomes to put on a cape

i wouldn't be the least bit scared of them

btw that Det/GB halftime show was short n sweet, but to my ears it was one of the better ones

i liked the Jack White/Eminem collab

    both Detroiters, of course

i've heard/seen far worse. far, far worse.

i like Post Malone and thought he was good too (Dal/KC game)

I would say the Chiefs right now are on "life support" and Patty ain't gonna save them a few years ago they would have found a way to win a game like last night's but the magic is gone. Not just the Mahomes Magic, but in all phases of the Chiefs game. We all knew it was gonna happen just like we all knew the Ravens were gonna fail and the Bills were gonna fail. It's all a part of Sports which is why players, coaches and even fans need to relish the success when it is happening.

Kansas City was really good at filling holes every year while they were at the bottom of the draft list because free agents wanted to play there, but it looks like that has ended. I don't follow the team to know what their personnel situation is like, but a season such as this after sustained success often causes players to consider retirement. Travis Kelce comes to mind.

The league is set up for parity. Low draft choices, harder schedules for the top teams. It’s impossible to stay on top forever. That’s why you must take advantage of it. Unfortunately Buffalo ran into the Chiefs every year and in my opinion wasted their best chances. Season isn’t over for any of the top teams but the fat lady is warming up

Talk about wasting your best chances, I'd say Detroit is right there with Buffalo

Dan Campbell is single handedly ruining Detroit

Detroit has more pieces in place than Buffalo ever did and it's a shame

one guy in particular i felt for yesterday was Trent McDuffie. dude is only 25 and has been named 1st & 2nd team All-Pro already, yet George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb tied him in knots. his only hope was to hang on for dear life -- literally. i think he was on the wrong end of 3 PI calls.

but in his defense, Dak wasnt under duress (zero sacks) the entire game. and that will make life for a CB a living nightmare........especially when you're tasked with eliminating receivers like those two

CD Lamb caught 7 of 9 targets so his drop issues seem to have sorted themselves out

Denver stands at 9-2 atop the AFC West, having won eight games in a row. It lost by 1 point to the Colts in Week 2 and it lost by 3 points to the Chargers in Week 3 (both losses came on last second field goals made by the Colts and Chargers).

Denver's remaining games are Washington, Las Vegas, Green Bay, Jacksonville, Kansas City and the Los Angeles Chargers.

Denver is 6-0 at home and 3-2 on the road. Denver has allowed only 192 points through 11 games (17.45 per game), second only to Houston's 182 points (16.54 per game) in the AFC and third in the NFL (behind the Rams' 179 points, 16.27 per game). Denver's defense is excellent.

Denver's offense is average, scoring 257 points through 11 games (23.36 per game).

If Denver wins 3 of its last six games it will end up 12-5 for the season; and if it wins against the Chargers it would likely take the AFC West crown.

So what do forum members think Denver's 2025 season will turn out. I expect Denver to make the playoffs and possibly win a game or even two. After a 10 year absence I would like to see Denver return to the Superbowl and notch win #4.

    Discuss.

    Discuss.

Denver's situation speaks for itself, they are where they are and nothing can dispute that.

I picked Denver to win the AFC West and bet on them to do that however I question if I trust Bo Nix, I think the defense and running game is their strong point and that in itself can be enough but if the chips are down and Denver is in a position to count on Nix to bring them back in the 4th quarter down by 2 scores I don't know if I believe in him to do that.

I like Denver always have except I never could stand Shannon Sharpe and his big mouth against my Patriots

I wish Denver well in beating out KC and the Chargers for the division, in the playoffs anything can happen and Denver will have just as good a chance as the next team

Looking at the entire season tells me not to get too excited about Denver, they won 6 of those 9 games by a total of 15 points.

The Bills are like the Phillies were in the 1970s when the Reds were always better, and the Red Sox in the 1990s when Oakland always beat them. The Red Sox fans were much more devoted to their team than the Oakland fans, but it didn’t matter.

The Bills best shot was last season when they had Kansas.City at home for the playoff game, but they blew it. Now they appear to be in decline. The Bills’ legacy seems to that they can’t win the big game when they are favored.

That's a better Legacy than the Browns, they can't even get to the big game!! It's like the old saying: It's better to be a Has-Been than a Never-Was.

I think the Bills best shot was the 13 second meltdown against KC

McDermott should have been fired after that game

I did not see that coming today

I honestly didnt know what I was watching

two weeks ago against the Lions i witnessed the Philly D looking like the 85 Bears on defense. I thought they were going to make Jared Goff quit football they were so savage.

the next week they go up 3 touchdowns on the Cowboys and all of a sudden, out of nowhere, they turned into a sieve and had the look of a team that had never played football before

I envisioned them being shot out of a cannon and taking it out on my team today, but we bullied their asses for 4 quarters. almost 300 yards on the ground! :D

the Eagles were straight-up PATHETIC on both sides of the ball

I have no idea what to make of them

and then we have my team. i have no idea what to make of them either. in week 3 we lost to the Lions by 31 points. since that game we have gone 9-1. i'm still not convinced that we're a great squad, but for some reason we just have a knack for not losing football games 😂

it's gotta be all Ben. if Matt Eberflus was still HC the 9 and the 3 would be reversed, i'm sure of it

I'm just having a hard time making sense of all this lol

btw the best part of that game was Philly's little ass shove play that completely backfired on them at the most inopportune time

Agreed. And neither is Cin in that NFC North division (imho).

I take credit for the Bills , Chiefs decline. Bet them 2 months ago to win the SB. These teams should pay me not to bet them.😀
