And yet another god awful game from McCarthy

Jefferson will be causing problems soon I'm thinking, he won't want to be wasted in that situation

    I hope not.

I'm curious how other rookie QB's did in their first year as a starter.

I remember Marino was great right away.

Going back, I see HOFer Terry Bradshaw completed 38% of his passes his first year with 6 TD's and TWENTYFOUR INT's.

    Eli Manning 48% completions, 6 TD's and 9 INT.

    John Elway 48%, 7 TD's, 14 INT.

Drew Brees in his SECOND year as a starter, 2-9 record, 11TD's and 15 INT.

    Troy Aikman 0-11 record, 53% completions. 9 TD's, 18 INT.

I guess J J is in good company.

I love that you are keeping the faith

All those guys you listed did have a rough go of it so yes McCarthy isn't the first rookie to struggle

I haven't seen many Vikings highlights since I dumped Red Zone

    >
    >
I have said all along that the Vikings probably weren't going to go with Darnold if he was going to get long term contract offers.
When Daniel Jones signed here, I thought that was going to be our QB for this year. That's what I would have preferred.

As far as "keeping the faith" goes, he has occasionally shown some great talent. As I pointed out several Hall of Fame/Super Bowl winning QB's had horrible years to begin their careers. It's not unheard of for a QB to get better.

I am NOT predicting he's going to lead us to the promised land. He might be hurt AGAIN, that would be upsetting.
O'Connell is an idiot for not adjusting the offense away from all the downfield passes, I haven't seen a quick slant pass since he became head coach.

The offensive line was supposed to be better this year. Sunday's game was the first time the starters all played together, and 2 (left tackle and guard) got hurt. 5 sacks and lots of pressure on McCarthy. Yes, he does hold on to the ball for a long time, but part of that is slow developing pass routes.

Regarding my Jefferson comment, so far he hasn't been your typical elite WR with an attitude so he might continue to be a team player and as long as he continues to get paid like one I'm sure that will help

You might be right about Jefferson being upset. I'm seeing Jefferson getting a lot of "targets" when he's well covered. None of our other receivers caught a pass Sunday.
I am sick to death of selfish players. I hope Jefferson doesn't turn out that way.

As long as the Vikings don't pull the numbers game with him come contract time and mention his numbers compared to other big name guys it might be fine.

He is a 100 catch 1500 yard guy with a solid QB, this season McCarthy obviously isn't that guy but sure that could change, we will see

Jefferson just signed a 4 year $140 million contract. If he starts causing problems, he can f#&k off!

Lastly, one thing I do know. The Vikings have no clue in how to "develop" a young quarterback, but neither do a lot of teams. Just look at how well Darnold and Jones are doing this year (and last year for Darnold) when they get some experience.

GO VIKINGS. GO J J MCCARTHY!

I forgot he signed that deal

That might help him from being disgruntled lol

Its not all guaranteed. Most of it is but the NFL could avoid a lot of issues if they would fully guarantee contracts like MLB does.

Either way if hes just getting 50 yards a game like he has been with McCarthy hes going to want to be traded at some point. His 2 best games of the year by far which are about a third of his receiving yards were with Wentz at QB

I've been waiting to see what else trickles out here about Aiyuk. There has to be more to that story.

    Thats definitely a hot mess

Im guessing they part ways in one way or another

He refused to show up to meetings and that breached his contract so they voided a bunch of guaranteed money apparently.

He needs to fire his agent immediately if missing a few meetings while youre recovering from surgery is enough to void your guarantees.

i hate to interrupt this JJ McCarthy lovefest, but i just found out that the shawwow/slap chop/schticky guy is running for congress here in Texas

it's one of those nuggets of info you should probably just keep to yourself, but it's the sign of the apocalyse so vitally important that i just had to puke it out

you know i've heard really good things about guam

i wonder if i could enter the draftkings sportsbook there

    "LoveFest"?

    Might turn into a hatefest.

McCarthy out for next weeks game with a concussion.

Back up, Max Brosmer looked good in preseason, a lot of Vikings fans have wanted to see more of him.

If McCarthy can't stay healthy, the debate over his ability might be moot.

    GO MAX!

Vikings doing McCarthy a favor with what is almost certainly a soft benching instead of just saying its his performance

All the team Drs and NFL Drs didnt see a concussion during the game but after a terrible game he now had one and sits out next week.

Is there anyway to watch the games today but opt out of the John Madden lovefest?
    That would be great. 🥳

The Lions are down 17 to 7. They could get away with falling behind to the Giants but not to the Packers.

For everyone complaining about the upcoming Super Bowl artist, the Detroit Lions present Jack White with special guest Eminem doing a song as he walks around the stage holding on to his package!!

Such is the music of the day.

Lions clawing their way back, 17 - 14 now

    Green Bay looks good

    Detroit looks not great

It really amazes me that anyone would complain about music for a halftime show, I just can't understand anyone being interested in it to begin with.

I can honestly said I enjoyed a million other things rather than being glued to my seat watching a halftime show

No need to jump to conclusions. I was at the kitchen table and walked into the TV room just in time to catch the aforementioned song.

Actually, I can’t envision anyone wasting a day watching the NFL, this is only the third part of a game I’ve seen this season. Like you and halftime shows, I can’t sit and watch an NFL game anymore.

It’s always a blast watching the Lions coach turn down 3 points and then not make it on fourth down! 😂🥳

  • MaywoodMaywood Posts: 3,406 ✭✭✭✭✭

We were just talking about that. If he’d have kicked the chip-shot it would be 31-24 and they’d be driving with a shot to tie.

can you imagine playing blackjack with a drunk Campbell

dude would be doubling down on hard 8s & splitting 2s against aces every chance he got

The Dallas defense is made of styrofoam. The Chiefs are running and passing right through it.

He is literally one of the biggest idiots coaching in the NFL

His incessant gadget plays to overcomplicate simple football is just moronic

We don't even need to talk about his going for it on 4th and not kicking FG's, that just speaks for itself

It’s sad because the Lions fans have years of frustration. Now they have the players, but they also have coach who is a fool. It’s like the time when the Eagles had the horses, but were stuck with Chip Kelly who played the hurry up offense almost 100% of the time. It worked a little while, but league figured his strategy out, and it turned into a disaster.

Pickens & Lamb just destroying that KC secondary

  • 2dueces2dueces Posts: 6,691 ✭✭✭✭✭

Dallas took down Philly and Kansas City in a 4 day span. KC now has a 38% chance of making the playoffs. Dallas has Detroit and then an easier schedule and might run the table and make the playoffs. Crazy year

And the Chiefs go down, yet again losing the sort of game they would have won a few years ago. Looks like right now they aren’t only in danger of not making the playoffs, they may not even finish the season above .500.

On the bright side, next season’s schedule will be easier and they’ll have higher draft picks.

KC will have to win out to make the playoffs, right?

Being a 3 win team from last year the Browns didn't get an easier schedule this year!

It's also possible those weak teams on the schedule for next year may strengthen up their roster through trades.

So you’re just looking for something to gripe about. I didn’t catch the Eminem appearance or Post Malone but I heard they were good. I would expect that Eminem popping up in Detroit would be a fan slam-dunk.
