Websites with great pictures and coins that completely match the coins when purchased
Accurate coin photography is a skill. Many times colors are enhanced or not at all and you end up with something that does not resemble the picture on the website. IMO the best coin dealers for accuracy in photography are:
Coin Rarities on Line
Eye Appealing Coins

How about dealers who boast about their images, but they are in fact awful.

How about starting your own thread on that topic if it interests you, so as not to derail this one?

You’re not welcome. I started my reply with the same two words - “How about” - that were at the beginning of your post, and was no more insistent than you were. The difference was that I included a reason for my request and wasn’t being disrespectful to the OP.

Whenever I list coins on a website, be that during the time I worked for my LCS or now on my own, I pursued the in-hand look. I followed up on my education in film & video and graphic design to have "suspension of disbelief" for visitors browsing the website. I also went an extra mile and had the images scaled on the website (there is a thread in World & Ancient Coins that discusses this matter in the PCGS photo albums).
My ultimate goal was for collectors to forget they were looking at a website. I wanted them to believe they were looking at the coins as if they were in the store with me.

The topic of how accurate coin pictures are is controversial. I agree with the Great Collections post but add this caveat. The new Great Photos often times exploit and or over emphasize some aspects of the coins. This is a good thing as a seller. I am terrible at pictures and would pay more than I do now to sell my coins simply because they show my coins in a better light. As a buyer I know to adjust my opinions on coins with Great photos to account for these glamour shots. I cannot over emphasize how important it is to have actual coins you have won so you can use them as a tool. Sime might consider this as trying to cheat people but that is wrong. Collectors want the buyers to recognize the best attributes of their coins. The Great Photos do exactly that. Non enhanced photos are also supplied so the buyer has the necessary information to make informed bids.
Heritage is another auction house that offers tremendous pictures. They too offer enhanced pictures that can seem quite miss leading. Know this. At Heritage they offer a very sophisticated picture system. I wish every coin seller out there would offer the ability to zoom in, alter the brigthness, and they too offer those original pictures for your reference. There too, having actual coins on hand you can use to compare to coins pictured is simply unreplacable.
Final comment. Always take into consideration the tools you are using to view coins. I am sometimes amazed at how different a coin appears on my 30 year old computer monitor as compared to my smart phone. James
I agree with Northeast. In fact, even though quite accurate, many times the coin is nicer in hand than in the photo.
