Talking Old-Time Photos Surprise Visitors at San Diego’s Old Town Mormon Battalion Visitors Center:

Heralded as the longest US army Infantry March in its history, those enlisted in The Spanish-American War’s Mormon Battalion marched some 2,000 miles from Fort Leavenworth Kansas to San Diego.

Once discharged in San Diego they contributed to both the building of San Diego’s Old Town including the building with bricks (itself a first) San Diego’s first court house there.

Before heading east to Salt Lake City to rejoin their families there, others stopped to help complete Sutter’s Mill and were instrumental in the discovery of gold there that set off the California Gold Rush of 1849.

At the Mormon Battalion Visitors Center in Old Town San Diego one can learn their story and see relics on display from that era including the muskets they were issued.

As one departs there is a gold panning sluice box from which visitors are welcome. Without charge, to try their luck gold panning.

Fascinating. Thanks for the history lesson and the next time I’m in Old Town I will visit everything for sure.

That is weird and looks like it took some time. I have no idea why someone would do that other than as a warning to not proceed further. JMO

I can see those as deterents, but how does someone see them. They
could possibly derail a train. If placed there intentionaly there should
be some signage warning the engineer/driver of the train.

  • jesbrokenjesbroken Posts: 10,793 ✭✭✭✭✭

Perhsps not enough to derail, but warn engineer of trouble ahead. Signs can be removed or destroyed. I 'm just guessing.

It also looks like the person at the front side of the plane is duct taped to the aircraft outer side too, Maybe Mel Brookes was filming a movie on how not repair a plane

SHARE IN AN EVENING HIGHLIGHTIN NUBIAN CULTURE TO NINCLUDE ITS MUSIC

Dressed in their colorful native dress these Nubian Performers play traditional instruments for the travelers on a Nile River Cruise Ship as it docks in Aswan Egypt.

Dancing Nubian Puppets enter center stage and with their antics steal the show.

Nubia was the historical land located at Egypt’s southern border. In more recent times its people were relocated northward into historical Egypt itself when the Aswan High Dam was built in the 1960s causing their villages to be flooded by the waters of the dam’s resulting Lake Nasser.

Their unique culture has been preserved as evident in this entertaining performance. Watch to the end to experience the secret reveal of the dancing puppets.
