Picked this one up for the slab collection but the coin is outstanding.
Does the condition of the actual coin matter to those who collect slabs and stickers?
It didn't really matter much to me when I was trying to find 1855/54 halves misidentified by each of the four recognized grading companies by eBay. These are both recent finds, so they qualify as "new purchases."
@pcgscacgold Beautiful Peace Dollar, and I too appreciate the old holders.
Having a preference for holder types isn’t mutually exclusive to whether you’re selective in the coins you buy, both can be true.
Not exactly new. I was on the road for a few weeks and this was waiting for me at the PO Box. I already had the copper and pewter die trial pieces, 12 and 49 made, respectively. Now I have the 3-oz gold Humbert octagonal, #68 of 375 made. I like the set.
@pcgscacgold said: @Barberian I am on the fringe of slab collecting so yes, the coin matters tremendously. I do not buy a coin that I do not like.
Generally, I agree with other coins. In my quest to cherry a roll of 55/54 overdates, I'd buy ugly coins if the price is low enough. This WB-1 with a pronounced overdate was $26. I perhaps lost my mind along the way.
I definitely lost my mind over this coin, but at least it's an R7 die marriage

@MEJ7070 in my opinion, Walkers and Peace dollars are the 2 toughest series to find attractive toning on, but man oh man you’ve harpooned one. Well done! That is a real gem!

I have a couple of these "restrike" gold slugs. I believe they have the same gold content as $50 in pre-1933 classic US gold coins or 2.41875 Troy ounces.
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

Yeah, they are always listed as 2.5 troy ounces. I have an empty NGC holder to tare weigh it and it came out as precisely 3.0 ounces avoirdupois. So I figured the alloy was at or close to 2.5 troy ounces. But I have not looked into it too closely. They are pretty cool and have a bit of heft to them.
I really wasn't in the market for this -- I already have one, it's been my avatar coin forever -- but when I saw it, it just didn't seem possible it could belong in anybody else's collection more than it belongs in mine. From Northeast, arrived last week.

Hurray, the mail came!
Grabbed this one from Rarity 7:

Early red Lincolns really pop.

Better date in Gem condition. All I could tell from the pictures was that it has clean surfaces, hopefully the luster is all there as well🤞

After picking up the “right” 39o this week, I figured a short set might be in order…..

I bought this off Great Coll for the hammered strike. CACG 65

I’m not really into Lincoln’s, but that is definitely an exception…
Absolutely splendid!

Thanks @GuzziSport Back in the day I collected MS66-67CAC Peace Dollars. This one stands up well against those.
