I begrudgingly respect CAC for including 4 spots for commems in their 7070 registry. I wanted to find a nice one in OGH, and this will do the trick and fill my final slot (for now). Frankly I didn’t mind snagging this at a pretty low hammer (considering the OGH and bean) after recently adding several nice, not inexpensive pieces to both my 7070 and my slowly evolving dark side projects.
This one seems to have the “splotchy” toning typically found on these that I don’t necessarily adore, but seems a bit more subtle here, and Phil’s shot captures some edge color I suspect I’ll enjoy in hand.
Not a higher grade, but a step up in eye appeal from my former example. From CRO:

Posted in a different thread but will add this new coin here. Really lucky to have acquired this one. Classic Head $2.50's have very low mintage. There were only about 13500 of the 1839D minted with about 200 survivors today.

I traded my PCGS 09s VDB in PC58 away last month at the Virginia Numismatic Association show. Richard Gross had a gorgeously toned 1860 Lincoln election token that I simply had to have (and is now one of the centerpieces of my collection), so for the first time ever I traded a coin that was active in one of my sets. Snagged a suitable replacement from GC last night. I could care less about registry points tbh, a nice original skinned key date with the OGH/bean combo will do just fine
Back in 2017 while I was working at PCGS I shot a wildly toned coin from my birth year. I liked it so much I saved the images of it on my phone. Whenever someone posts a “Post a coin from your birth year” thread (there’s a few) I always posted it even though the coin wasn’t mine. A few weeks ago at GC I was shooting some coins and lo and behold I pulled that very same coin out of the box for an upcoming auction. I had to bid on it. I succeeded. Finally, the coin is mine. A bit of a premium for the toning, untoned it’s basically worth silver spot, but whatever.

It’s a fully struck, brilliant, highly lustrous RD with no issues. It’s hard to imagine improving upon this example, even with a couple graded higher!

Hey Ken - EVERYONE should like if their IHC's merit both a CAC sticker AND Rick Snow's Eagle Eye Photo Seal! While some people may think having both stickers is redundant, that's not true! As you and I know, JA of CAC and Rick each weigh various factors differently, As such, there are some coins with CAC stickers that Rick will not add his Photo Seal, and there are some coins with Rick's Photo Seal that JA will not apply a CAC sticker. A coin having both stickers is "having the best of both worlds."
They each have a lot of respect for each other. As an example, CAC will remove all other stickers when applying their CAC sticker, EXCEPT for Rick's Photo Seal. They leave that on! The same is true of coins submitted for consignment to GC. They remove other stickers, but leave CAC and PS stickers.

Simply outstanding cent CAC and Eagle Eye is a sign of a true quality coin!
Wouldn’t it be interesting to know how an IHC could have survived all these years in pristine condition? Beautiful coin. Back in the day when the above coin was only 100 years old I would occasionally see large groups (rolls?) of uncirculated coins come to light. I suspect that the only way a coin like that could survive was as among the best of a large saved group.
Sometimes you just gotta keep it simple: See the CAC approved nicely album toned Peace Dollar, buy the CAC approved nicely album toned Peace Dollar.
From Americana Rare Coins. Always appreciate how often they feature new inventory(and how quickly they ship). A great American coin shop as far as I’m concerned. I’d love to stop in one day even though they’re on the other side of the country.

Hi, All... picked up Box #12 this week on another jaunt...
