Great American Coin Show report

I was very happy to see that a larger sized show was going to come to Rosemont to replace the ANA. It was on my schedule as soon as I saw it. The list of Dealers was great. I was looking forward to a good show.
I arrived at about noon on Thursday. There were several people in line ahead of me but the staff did a great job of bouncing between the different lines to get people into the show asap. The room was large with many open tables on either end. This gave plenty of room to sit and talk with coin friends or just take a break. Often big shows do not have space to relax with friends. Big plus for me.
I had several dealers I wanted to see and talk with. First I headed to see Doug Winter. He is usually one of the busiest dealers with everyone wanting to discuss his newps that are on the way or about the many books that he has authored. Like usual, he had a line, so I continued on.
Next up was John Agre at CRO. I had made a pre-show buy (I have posted the 1808/7 already) to pick up and wanted to see what else he had. I had a good talk with John and was also able to help him attribute a Classic Head $5 that he had just taken in. I always bring D Haynor's Classic Head book to all shows. It is so easy to use. Anyone collecting either the QE's or HE's should buy this book. People that know me know the Classic Heads are a favorite for me.
Back around and yet again Doug was deep in conversation so I stopped by NEN to say Hi to Chris. I have known Chris for almost 15 years. He is always very busy at shows, looking for new coins for inventory.
Next up was Phil at EAC. It took 3 tries to get him but finally he was free. He always has some great coins. I was lucky enough to have their site open on my computer when the KC Collection hit a week before the show. It was the 3rd highest rated Everyman's registry set (all 58's some CAC some not). I instantly saw two I wanted and called. I set up a show pick up and love the coins a lot. Unfortunately one other coin I wanted was bought by the guy standing next to me. He had 6-8 slabs on the table and was counting out the $100's to take them home. Just missed it.
Back to Doug and yet another person so I finally decided to just wait. I had brought my Classic Head $5 set for him to see. I am currently at 15 of the 34 known Die Marriages. I have purchased 12 of the 15 from Doug. He has a great eye and handles so many great coins. I am sure we will do business again very soon. You have to be lucky though because his offerings last minutes not days.
I made 5-6 full passes around the room (while waiting for dealers to be available). If I was a Morgan collector I could have spent hours and hours. I will say this show had the most Early Gold that I have seen. Tangible Investments and Legends brought their great coins. A few other dealers had some Draped $5's and even some $2.50's. Carlos at Crescent City had and exceptional P62+CAC 1838 QE. Dripping with luster. Stack's, Heritage and GC had great coins on display for upcoming auctions. When there is a security guy sitting right next to the display case you know quality is inside.
I saw a lot of people buying. Some were wearing dealer tags some were not. The raw dealers had people lined up to look through binders. The bullion guys did not appear too busy. The strangest thing I saw was an older man using a yellow towel to wipe off UNC 2024/2025 quarters that he was looking to buy. He pulled them out of the roll, rubbed them down, and looked through his glass. As I gold guy, I have not witnessed that before.
Sorry for the long read. I thought it was a great show but I had set up my buys ahead of time. One thing I did not find, but had hoped to, was a Rattler 50 cent Commemorative with a sticker. There were several non-stickered but only 1 or 2 with CAC green. Neither were what I wanted but I had thought it would be fun to add a Rattler to my collection. Maybe next time.

Thank you for the informative report
Something that struck me was your relationship and reliance on dealers to supply you with quality choices.
Almost impossible to do that alone.
A lesson I should have learned years ago.

Great report! Thanks for sharing!
One thing I noticed on Friday was the Legend table empty. So was Peak Rarities (deplorable Dan). I’m guessing both left after Thursday?
Dan's booth was empty on Thursday at noon. He was a show sponsor. Something must have happened. I was looking forward to seeing Dan and talking.

I recall him mentioning that he was a sponsor and looking forward to this show.
Thanks for the great report.
Hopefully you can post some of your NEWPs for us soon.
@Walkerguy21D I have posted them in other places but here are the 3 CBH's from the show. First one from an Early Bird email from CRO and the last two from the KC Collection of 58's

Great show report, and glad you got to go (and had recent purchases to pick up).
Rosemount is such an ideal spot for a show (IMO).

Still working on a possible 2026 ANA Pittsburg trip. Not ideal that they pushed it to the end of August.

I really enjoyed Pittsburg last time ... @Davidk7 and @Pnies20 have stories!! ... but it is not the easiest spot, and late August was a foolish date IMO.

Why is late August bad?
Maybe school starting in many areas makes it less convenient for some-especially if someone wants to bring their kids along?
What works for some doesn't work for others. The past 5 years or so the show was held at the end of the 1st week to 2nd week in August. This year was a week later. They have now pushed it all the way to the end (ends August 29th). It is a full week later than this year. For some this means school has started. Again, maybe end of August is a good choice. The 2027 dates are not out yet (or at least AI couldn't find them).

Great report @pcgscacgold!
Proud follower of Christ!
Sounds like the show was good for you, nice newps. I'm sure you will find that rattler commemorative you are looking for, they are out there. This photo was before I sent to CAC but does have a green bean now.
My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Russell, I was thinking Teachers and potentially Professors and/or young adult Students. Also, for the younger set who might travel to a city with their kids for a more complete vacation (and get a day off for the show), if school is in session that is much less likely to happen.

Labor Day is going to be pushed back a week next year as compared to this year. Does that change anything for anyone?

I enjoyed reading your show report. Thank you for posting it.
I found it to be a good show. There were issues, not to be unexpected for such a large, aggressive show on its first run. Needed more dealers and more public. A minor lamp clamp problem, due to the vendor that was supplying them. Larry did a good job. Next year, with more promotion and clear dates/times, it could be outstanding. Yeah, the back to school thing was cited, but it never slows down January FUN, which is when kids return to school and directly follows holidays (less disposable income and a lot of folks burned vacation days allowances). The venue is demonstrably among the best.
I mainly sold Saints and acquired the final three I needed for the set at the show as well.
@pcgscacgold - Excellent write up!👍
