Franklin’s Nittany Lions are 1-15 during his tenure at Penn State when facing teams ranked in the top five of the AP college football poll. That stat will undoubtedly come up again this week — even though, due to a twist of fate that some may call East Coast bias, the Nittany Lions’ next opponent ranks just outside of the top five. Oregon checked in at No. 6 this week ahead of its trip to State College.

So they get him on a technicality!!! :p His ability to come up short in the biggest, most important games will haunt him till he overcomes it.

And I too enjoy the scene of the White Out.

The place where a young quarterback named Roger Staubach played his debut game in 1962. Back then, it only held around 50,000. Now the listed capacity is at 106,572.

I was at an Indians game recently and the width of the seats can't get much smaller, nor can the distance between rows. How are they able to fit more and more and more people into these stadiums and ball parks?? Old Cleveland Municipal Stadium, built around 1930. would hold upwards of 70k in seats and over 86k SRO. The new Football Stadium holds around 65k and the baseball venue holds around 35k.

While the pro's are downsizing the Colleges are moving in the other direction, but I think around 105k is the limit.

The big house actually held 115,109 for one game (notre dame 2013).
I dont know about every stadium, but with Ohio Stadium they increased the capacity over the years by digging into the field ground or going underground.

I could not stand going to Gopher games in the Metrodome. That might have been the lamest college football experience ever. Camp Randall on the other hand. That place was hoppin' back in the Barry days. I mean... Glory days.

Franklins teams have much bigger problems than his record against top 5 teams.

Hes 4-20 against top 10 teams, and 15-29 against teams with any ranking.

He gets scared, coaches scared, and has never had the QB to bail him out. Nothing has changed. They have a pretty easy schedule this year and really its more of a reflection on Oregon if they dont win

Although Penn State had a easy non conference schedule, their BIG schedule is not easy. Besides Oregon, they play Ohio State and Iowa on the road, and play Indiana and Nebraska. Indiana will be a dangerous team this year.

If PSU is what they are being hyped up to be Nebraska and Iowa shouldnt be a problem. Indiana is better than they were last year and has one of the better WR rooms and would not be surprised if PSU lost that game. If they lose to Nebraska theyve just given up on the season

@coolstanley, that is a remarkable accomplishment. When you think about there are a large number of NFL players from a small number of NCAA schools. I remember when Lyle Alzado got drafted from Yankton College and the entire nation said "Who, from where??" with good reason. The way I heard it was that a scout had car trouble and called in to the team(Denver Broncos) and ended up going to a local school where he saw Alzado. Talk about destiny.

And the Seminoles fall after their two game tour against The Little Sisters Of The Poor. So let the re-shuffling of the Top 10 begin and the further collapse of the ACC as a force in college football continue.

My next winning upset specials are Oregon, Ole Miss and Alabama. If all that happens things will be in disarray for the voters.

Illinois traditionally has not matched up well against USC- The last Illini win was 36 years ago. I remember watching it on TV- Illinois rallied from a 13-0 deficit to win 14-13. Both teams were ranked at the time and oddly enough both teams went on to have good seasons. I don't see an Illinois recovery this week, but I would like to be wrong.

I'm taking Illinois for the win. A SC team playing at a midwestern team at a noon start, is usually not a good outcome for the traveling team.

I called it, USC played great in the 2nd half. Illinois comes through on a thrilling last second FG.

I am pleased to be wrong...

    ILL

    INI

The USC game was what I anticipated with Indiana.

What a great game- And if I had to choose between beating USC 34-32 and loosing to Indiana 63-10, I would choose beating USC as it is the second time that has happened in my lifetime. Sort of like the Cubs playing in the World Series or Northwestern playing in the Rose Bowl.

This makes me laugh every time. Were you watching a baseball or basketball game? Arkansas is not a power in the SEC for football and the loss is the best thing that could have happened to them. A win would have saved Pittmans job who needs to be fired and now theyre one step closer to getting rid of him

It was Homecoming in Champaign. And I believe it was a sell-out.

I suspect the Illini faithful are thrilled to win if and they failed to meet celebratory expectations after the game because the goal posts are still upright... Well, I further suspect they can live with that as there was no time to plan and file a feasibility study to comply with OSHA and other local requirements for such activity.

Its literally the fan base just admitting they know their team isnt very good. Its week 5 act like youve had a good win before. Likely neither will be ranked at the end of the year and they arent a rivalry. Are we just going to storm the field for every win in every game now? The UVA one was cool aside from that one guy running up to the FSU QB and flicking him off

Well, Ohio State won rather easily today but they have a RedZone problem. If Ryan Day doesn't figure it out they'll lose games against the better teams.
--- on defense the opponents have made too many trips inside the 20.
--- on offense, the Buckeyes have made too many trips and not been able to get into the Endzone.

Part of what I think we're seeing is the exodus of so many players from last year's team to the NFL. They lost both RB's and haven't figured out that position yet. As a RedShirt Freshman, Julian Sayin is still green. Time will tell if the offense is capable of playing at the same level as the defense. Until they do it won't surprise me to see a loss. I thought the early fumble would be a turning point after Washington had imploded and it looked like Ohio State was poised to score. After the fumble I thought surely the Huskies would score a TD and then put the Buckeyes on the ropes, but the mighty D stepped up..

Their offense played a lot better in the 2nd half, and once again the defense played lights out not allowing a TD in a tough environment. Buckeyes snap the Huskies 22 home win streak.

And LSU falls to perennial SEC powerhouse Ole Miss. Should result in the Tigers dropping out of the Top 10 where they never should have been in the first place. If everyone remembers, LSU was propelled into the Top 5 and stayed there on the heels of a comeback victory over Clemson, another pre-season over ranked team. These voters need to start looking at all the teams more objectively.

11 Indiana comes up with the win over Iowa. I was watching this game on peacock. The score was tied at 13 when the Iowa FG kicker missed a 42 yarder that would've put them in the lead with 2 minutes to play in the 4th. After the missed attempt, Indiana scores on a long TD pass that would win the game.

The way Georgia was racking up yards on the ground, I thought they would win, but Bama has their number. The Florida State loss looks worse now that Florida State got beat by a unranked yesterday.

Penn State finally woke up in the 4th quarter to send it to OT. Hats off to Oregon for getting the road win.

Wow, let's recap what was a crazy weekend in College Football:
    Ohio State --- won.
    Miami(Fla) --- idle.
    Penn State --- lost.
    LSU --- lost.
    Georgia --- lost.
    Oregon --- won.
    Oklahoma --- idle.
    Florida State --- lost.
    Texas A&M --- won.
    Texas --- idle.

So in this week's Top 10 there were 3-winners, 4-losers and 3-teams who didn't play. WOW!!! :# I have no idea what tomorrows Top 10 might look like besides Ohio State and Miami(Fla) at 1-2. Realistically, Oregon should be 3 but after that I'm lost. I wonder if this kind of thing has ever happened before.

    just a ridiculous game

two offenses that were the cure for insomnia in the first half

going into the 4th i thought they could have played 20 more quarters and Penn St wouldn't have been able to score a touchdown

then then out of the clear blue sky they morphed into one of the most prolific offenses in the country and made 3 house calls to take the lead

only to turn right around and give up 2 to Oregon and lose

six figures worth of fans who hadn't been teased that hard since grade school
