4 days left on the 1984 OPC mattingly psa 10, card is at $3,300. This should be his most valuable card, let's see how ends up. Just picked up Tom's PSA 9 of his site for $149. Thanks Tom.
Picked up a handful of players I like a few years back. Always liked seeing the O-Pee-Chee ads in the late 70's, early 80's in Baseball Digest, Street & Smith's, etc. Seemed exotic to my 9 / 10 year old self
1975 Brett OPC PSA 7 sold for $1300 and a 1975 OPC Yount PSA 8 sold for $1230 on eBay sold on a 4 sharp corners eBay consignment which has to be a record in those grades. Glad I picked up those two when I did! Brett was off-centered and and was an old flip.

I agree. I imagine those must be records in those grades. very solid sales.
The OPCs getting love are the elite players and rookies, and maybe really tough low pops.
Commons and stars are not getting much interest. PSA 9s selling for less, some much less, than grading fees.
Except for the very few registry guys. Seems no one is set building or even team building.
I have some higher grade SGC holdered stars and HOFers that get 0 views on ebay.
it took me 10 years to collect the 1978 set. right now there is 1 one listed on ebay that would help my set and they are asking $1,250. in last 3 years i have seen about 5 cards that would up grade my set. and in total there are just few listed in general. so its a labor of love to finish one of these sets. just not enough of them and not enough graded ones.
I miss the days when you could buy PSA 10 78 OPC cards for like $25 each. I have a bunch of low pop PSA 10 73 OPC and 78 OPC cards I pulled from packs. With prices as high as they are now, I'm considering selling them at some point.
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.

Hi olb31: I just received grades on the last of my subs, and I don't plan on subbing anymore for the foreseeable future. I'm down to one needed upgrade: 1978 OPC #20 Ruppert Jones. Any chance you have one for sale in PSA 7, 8, or 9?

I Believe i do i have an extra let me check. since they are looking at the cardboard itself, the number of opc psa 9's and up will be rare from 1980 and older..tom got some nice ones the other when opened a nice fresh box, but i bet he paid quite a bit for that.

Many thanks to olb31 for helping me out! It's been a challenge building this set in PSA 7 or better. Had I started it in the last couple of years or so (instead of about 8 years ago), I don't think I could have done it.
There were some really weak sales in that auction. A PSA 9 Sittler sold for 2700, normally sells for 4300. Many hockey examples like this. Have to think a lot of US buyers sat this one out.
While that Munson price is good, I wonder what would have sold for with a large US based auction house. Suspect a fair amount more.
hockey and basketball vintage are doing nothing. football is barely breathing. unitas and rose i think are in similar company. 1974 unitas psa 9 sells for around $200, rose 1974 sells for $2,000 -- makes no sense.

You make sweeping statements to generalize market activity where variance is so easy to see. Makes no sense.
It is an interesting aspect of breaking and new releases which I feel has amplified the seasonality of collecting the various sports. I also believe that the insert of certain stars has influenced the collecting desire for those specific stars in vintage by drawing more, and many times, less vintage-experienced dollars.
I think the 70 Munson is a much-underappreciated card in both Topps and OPC so to see top pop go for what it did... Maybe I'm surprised it didn't go for a lot more given how much money seems to be flowing into collecting.
I will compare this to another OPC card. Some will likely say it's not comparable...
1968 OPC Ryan rookie PSA 8 is a Pop 13 with none higher and is what $40k+
I understand Ryan has a massive following and is a HOFer but Munson while not a HOFer, has a big following as well and part of the NY history etc. This card is a PSA 9 and a Pop 1 with none higher. 1970 OPC in high grade is not easy to find, I know
OPC high grade is HOT and I expect it to continue

honestly, i am surprised the 68 opc ryan rookie is not much higher already. a top tier collected player and an extrememly rare rookie version.
the 68 ryan must be the preeminent OPC card of all time, no?

It is but the PSA 8 does not pop up for sale very often. My guess is the next 1 would go over $50k easy

the variance isn't easy for me to see. unitas is probably more well liked than rose, definitely less controversial.
I think the 70 Munson is a much-underappreciated card in both Topps and OPC...
I agree and I think one reason for that may be the iconic status of Munson's second card, the 1971 Topps and OPC. It's also kinda like a rookie card with the all star rookie trophy.
Heck, I've got the pic from the Munson rookie card as my avatar here and I like the '71 better myself.

Yes 1971 Munson is Iconic as well as highly condition sensitive, the 1970 is a typical pedestrian multi player rookie card. No contest!

nice, i had #1 and #2 in one order...beat cha, lol!!!
Tom I need a few upgrades in my 1978 opc set, do you have some that aren't listed on your site?
Wow, great sale. I have one of those in a psa 7
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
All the graded stuff is just about gone. Had a lot at 1 time but that doesn't help you know
thanks

That psa 7 Munson is so nice. I would pay a nice price for that card. BTW, I think a PSA 9 Munson would sell for $75,000+

mattingly opc finished at 4500
Go Don, go.

OPC on the rise!!
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
Glad to see OPC get some love. I don't have many, but I have always liked them. I didn't realize the Boggs is a pop 8. Quite surprised to see that.

i see that a 68 Ryan opc in psa 8 oc sold a few weeks ago for $18k.
8oc=6 right?
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
that's my understanding. i have a 6 that i paid $450 for in 2014. incredible price
Congrats to the OPC sellers.
wow, that was a good deal for sure. i picked up my 7 in 2013 i think, but paid around $1100 if memory serves. i thought i WAY overpaid at the time.

Watching classic auctions in Canada that has Thurman Munson 1970 OPC PSA 9 Pop 1 closing soon at 16k(19k with the juice) Unbelievable!
Update…….20k without the juice in extended bidding!
If that is a US buyer they are potentially in for a surprise when that card crosses the border.
@Mikeygiggs_336699 Also the 1966 OPC baseball near set sold for $2756 without the juice! STRONG prices for OPC ball!
buying O-Pee-Chee (OPC) baseball
24K and still going….
Was watching that lot also, early OPC baseball sets/near sets command a lot of attention.
A 6 for comparison....not a bad option for 23,500 less!
