You let a team hang around all game, like GB let the Browns, this is the results. All the time I followed that score I could feel that this would be the outcome.

be thankful you didnt watch it like I did

    it was horrific

Green Bay wins that game as long as they didnt shoot themselves in the foot, and they did it so many times at the end that they completely blew it off

Cleveland couldn't score the entire game and the absolute last thing Jordan Love could afford to do is turn the ball over deep in their own end with 3 minutes left to give the Browns any chance. and of course he throws a pick and they almost return it for a touchdown

then they had a new lease on life when they got it to the Cleveland 22 with 2 minutes left. the Browns had one timeout left. a team in that spot wins the game at least 95% of the time. next thing you know, GB started going backward with a false start penalty. and when they lined up for the FG I just knew something other than the ball going through the goal posts was going to happen. sure enough.

then of course Cleveland moves into FG range with 20 seconds left and no timeouts, aided by Micah jumping offsides on a play

again, be very glad you didn't watch it

Talk about shooting your self in the foot. How about both feet? New England dominates Pittsburgh. They ran up and down the field, held Rodgers at bay all game long. But 4 lost fumbles, one at the goal line and an INT. 5 turnovers!! Hard to win in this league. @perkdog Correct me if I’m wrong but Stevenson has a history of coughing it up? Great back when he holds on to the ball. I watched the whole game but geez.

Bryce Young throws for 121 yards, zero touchdowns, and Carolina beat Atlanta by 30 points

He led the NFL running backs in fumbles last year so there is that

I can't say he isn't a solid back but turnovers will negate that pretty damn easy

They paid him so they believe in him, fumbles are part of his game unfortunately

Well I was wrong I really thought the Giants were going to beat KC last night.

The NFL is so week to week. it's a crap shoot, I still need to remember that consistency is a rare word when describing anything NFL related

Russell Wilson plays like Tom Brady last week and this week he plays like a a High School QB

Jordan Love missed his receiver by so much it looked intentional. I had to replay it 3 times to make sure it wasn't deflected. That was a horrible pass at the worst time in the game on the worst place on the field.

    but i'm not kidding myself

Just watched the Cincy vs. Vikings highlights and was surprised just how bad the Bengals appear to be. On offense they can't pass or run, one defense they can't stop the pass or the run. Next game on the road in Denver, not a nice place to play.

My hunch is that he's still riding the wave of that run to the Super Bowl.

Cincinnati presents this same enigma every season?? Remember that stretch when they hadn't won a playoff game for 7-8 seasons, had the Steelers on the ropes until Vontaze Burfict went "animal" and the Bungles lost yet another?? Even then they had one of the NFL's most talented rosters......................on paper. That persists to this day, they have a lot of really, really good players but it never comes through in their record. As bad as Cleveland has been, the Joe Burrow led Bengals are only 4-5 against them, 3-6 vs. the Ravens, 4-3 against the Steelers. What comes across to me is that Zach Taylor gets outcoached in his Division.

I hate the word "under-performed" but it fits. I sort of lean your way and figure Taylor may get some slack this season because of the Burrow injury but with their roster he has to be close to being shown the door.

Heard a stat today: the Packers were 300-0 when they were up by 10 points with less than 4 minutes to play. The last time it happened Vince Lombardi was coaching against Don Shula!!!

Granted, the Packers and Love made some mistakes, especially in crunch time, but you have to at least give the Browns defense a little of the credit. The defense is the real deal, especially against the run. The addition of 1st round DT Mason Graham is already being felt. Even though the Ravens managed 41 points, the Browns held them to less than 250 total yards and Derrick Henry to a mere 23 yards. Think about that. In the first game against the Bills he rushed for 169 yards and tonight he already has 41 yards. Three of the best offensive teams have managed a total of 172 running the ball.

Cleveland will struggle to win games all year and easily lose probably10-12 games, but it won't be because of the defense and they won't get beat on the ground. Most of their games will be low scoring affairs and if Stefanski can figure out a way to generate some offensive points they might have a good season, not a winning season but a good one.

absolutely. i hadn't gotten around to dishing out credit to the Brownies' D because i need 5 consecutive days to kvetch about the Packers because they lost me money. but in all seriousness, Cleveland's defense is legit. credit where credit is due -- they went full bore for 4 quarters, even when the offense did them virtually no favors the entire game. it's a shame, really, because if the O wasn't one of the worst in the league the Browns would be formidable. maybe the turning of the corner isn't too far away...

Saw this in a story and thought it was interesting. My hope is that the Browns defense continues to play good enough to keep the team close in games and that Joe Flacco can summon whatever he has left in his tank to win a few of them. The longer Dillon Gabriel and Sheduer Sanders are kept off the field the better long term it will be.

Quarterbacks who are drafted in the third round or later do not have the best track record of being successful, let alone staying in the league.

In fact, over the past five seasons, only one quarterback drafted in the third round or later is currently starting in the league. That quarterback would be Spencer Rattler, whom the Saints drafted in the fifth round of the 2024 draft. Even if you go back 10 seasons, there is only one more quarterback who is starting today that fits that criteria, and that is Dak Prescott, who the Cowboys selected in the fourth round in 2016.

In the past five years, 34 quarterbacks have been drafted in the third round or later. Nineteen of which are out of the NFL, nine are backups, five are on practice squads, and the lone starter is Rattler. It’s safe to say that the hit rate on these types of quarterbacks is not the highest.

Interesting. What’s the hit rate for QBs drafted in the other rounds? Sometimes things are less interesting when you have the full picture. It looks like about 20 percent of all drafted QBs have a career that last at least 5 years. Whoever wrote that article was making an uninteresting point about nothing.

To provide context, since you clearly missed it in my post, the article had to do with Gabriel or Sanders playing and being successful. Since they were drafted in the 3rd and 4th rounds, talking about players drafted in the first 2 rounds wouldn't make sense.

I had no good idea what the data would say when I read the post. So I looked because if it’s that dire for 3rd or later I wanted to understand why. But it’s not. The success rate for 1st rounders under the criteria alluded to is merely 28% and for every round after: 22%. Perhaps the last 5 years is abnormal but I was too busy picking fights to look that up.

If you go back 20 years the success rate of 1st rounder QBs was 65%. That’s a significant change.

if you're riding the fence on whether or not the NFL is unpredictable and wildly insane, look no further than the Falcons

week 1: they almost beat Tampa, who is undefeated

week 2: they thumped the Vikings

week 3: they seemingly had a layup against the winless Panthers

    then

    they get curb stomped 30-0

I suppose it does but he's hurt right now so he'd be one of the nine who are backups or five who are on practice squads. I'm not sure where the 49ers have him right now. But you raise a good point because the current back-up starter is Mac Jones who fits inside the timeframe of 5 years.

Vikings definitely picked the better Rodgers in the offseason (Isiah and not Aaron)
