rec78rec78 Posts: 5,930 ✭✭✭✭✭

Hello, I had these coins graded by PCGS- see if you can guess the grades (no cheating) use your opinion to see how close you can get to the grades given by PCGS. I will reveal the grades on Tuesday 9-16.

I know they don't do this but I am split grading your T-1 coin. The Obverse looks full XF but the reverse lacks some detail and looks VF-30. I will guess slab grade VF-35.
    I gade your T-2 as a staight XF-40. James

Two reasons. First is grading type 1 and type 2 SLQ is different. Second is that the second quarter has more meat on it.

Primarily on the prominent leg and some of the gown lines. The shield, head etc actually has less detail on the T2, imo.

Reading the responses, I think a couple people are very close or spot on.

    I saw them as VF20 and VF30

Not my series and the usual "duck" in that the photos are not quite first rate, but the first looks better than most F15 coins so will go 20. The second, well, appears certainly better but can't I believe reach 40 so will go with 35.

    T 1. - 20
    T 2 - 35

I always under grade these things. I’d say they are both low level VFs, 20 and 25.

The Standing Liberty design is beautiful when it’s Mint State and well struck. It did not hold up well in circulation in my opinion.

Thanks to all for participating. Only Simon W got both the grades correct (with his shot guesses). I thought that the shield on the type one would kinda even out the grades. Rare to see the entire shield dots in a F15. You are all better graders then me. The shield part on the type 2 seems more worn. Lots of close guesses and many got at least one correct!
