Looking forward to this one. Great location and a fine list of bigtime dealers. Will be there Thursday to pick up a purchase and hopefully find some others to bring home.

I maintain that if a show is looking to break though creating a Sat to Sunday program for Vest Pockets and collectors to squat at abandoned tables for a prorated/discounted price under show/display would create a buzz and opportunity for dealers/buyers/enthusiasts alike all while injecting fresh material into the pipeline

Winter FUN has 1500+ dealers so this show with 1000 plus dealers is significant by comparison!

I think that if the 1000+ dealers number is accurate, it would be fair to classify the show as one of significant size - easily one of the largest of the year.

How many dealers and assistants at Winter FUN?

EDIT: I don't mean to be overly negative on the heels of IMEX but advertising the quantity of dealers and assistants seems really disingenuous to me. Nonetheless, I'm sure this show will be perfectly fine.

Some years back someone working as a show organizer told me that they counted dealers as the number of people registered for dealer badges. That is if a dealer company Joe's Coins had Joe and two others listed for dealer badges on that table, then that would be 3 dealers (3 dealer badges on that table). So a HA could have a dozen or more. The GACC write up above appears to be agreeing with this. Remember some coin companies will have multiple tables, so a 400 table bourse might not have 400 companies even with some sharing tables.
I don't know if a person not associated with a table signs up as an early bird or regular but list a coin company if anyone would count them also. Might be harder to track that.

From what I've seen, that's usually the norm, rather than the exception. The exception here is that they disclosed "and assistants", when typically it's just "dealers". That said, the number of booths occupied is the true number of participating businesses that paid for a booth, and that is always drastically less than the number of "dealers" advertised so personally I don't consider it disingenuous, truthfully, I barely consider it "hype".

I was a bit bummed out that the Fort Lauderdale concept didn't get to take root because it was so close, but just about every time I've asked a dealer if they're going to Rosemont this year, the answer was a resounding "yes". The room it's in is massive, and Rosemont is just such an easy an cost friendly location

I think the timing of this show has great potential also, now that all the ANA auctions have passed, so it's not like there's 400,000 coins auctioning off in a week, not to mention the metals prices possibly attracting locals to cash out while everyone is in town. Dealers have had enough time to settle down after ANA and many skipped Imex, so im optimistic.

It would be nice if they updated the dealer list on their website (last update - July 21).

I'll definitely be buying if dealers bring quality coins that fit my collection.

  • We are still working on the updated dealer list, and the update will be extensive. This involves many steps to make it correct so that is why it is taking a little longer for us.

I agree that going to Rosemont was a pleasure when I lived in Harrisburg, PA, and had Amtrak Guest Reward points to burn. Unfortunately Rosemont has become the biggest pain in the butt to get into and out of now that I’m halfway between Huntsville and Birmingham, Alabama. Airfares are ridiculous (flying to and from Europe is cheaper, as are the hotel rates). Driving 11-12 hours and THEN just in time to deal with the highway out toward O’Hare, is a complete non-starter. This is also why I’ll probably ever go to Central States either. Where you are traveling FROM makes all the difference. I’ll take Nashville and even Oklahoma City any day.

As a dealer paying for a table, I would not look so fondly on them.

Can anyone give a recommendation for getting a few coins photographed during a one day visit to the show? They are lower grade but R5/6 Classic Head $5's that didn't get Trueviews and were purchased prior a dealer doing it. Need photos for a project related to my Classic Head $5 Die Marriage set.
