It was tough watching early on but then McCarthy caught fire. Great game to watch!
Defense played fantastic!
McCarthy looked lost out there for much of the game, but played well at the end.
I tuned in early in the 2nd quarter and from what I saw he didn’t look lost at all. Sure, he’d love to get back that pick 6 but Wright made a great read on it and jumped the route. O’Connell still trusted him enough to run that very same play later on and Jefferson caught it for a decent gain.
2 of his 7 seven incompletion’s were balls that should have been caught. Thielen let one bounce off his chest on a 3rd & short play that would have extended the drive after the INT. Jefferson also let one go right through both hands, that throw was a bit high but definitely still catchable for an elite wideout. The Vikings still got into the end zone 2 plays later.
Over those first 3 quarters the rest of his offense didn’t really do him any favors by helping him out. I checked the box score just after the 3rd ended and the team had 13 rushes for 38yds and 11 of them were on a McCarthy run. The OL had given up 3sacks/4QB hits at that point too.
They finished with 120 rushing yards and the OL gave up just 1QB hit & 0 sacks during that final quarter where they scored the 21pts.
It’s only one game but that 4th quarter should stifle the he sucks chants for at least one more week. 😎
.02 from a heated Bears fan who watched every snap of that game
for almost 3 quarters McCarthy looked completely inept, completely lost. like a QB who had never experienced the speed of an NFL game before. oh that's right, because he hadn't. but those 3 quarters worth of experience proved invaluable, because as my team was effing around not putting that game away, he was catching up. next thing you know, with the outcome still in question, he morphed into Fran Tarkenton and played that way until the end of the game.....and took it.
he deserves a lot of credit, my team deserves none

I haven't seen a lot of Caleb Williams' play in the last two years. His games against the Vikings and a couple others to see what the hype was all about.
So far, the guy looks like a tremendous athlete who can make plays that few guys can. However, I have seen him make a lot of bad throws when he is not under pressure and has a wide open receiver.
If I were a Bears fan. I would be concerned. Last night he had a guy wide open down the left sideline and missed him badly. A score there would have made it almost impossible for the Vikings to win.
Bottom line, the Bears scored a TD on their opening drive and another in "garbage time" and managed only 3 points by the offense the rest of the game.

To add to Galaxy’s Fran Tarkenton analogy, I think it was more that Minnesota remembered that they were a 15win team last season and these weren’t the ‘85 Bears.
I can’t speak for Chicago but I just spent all offseason listening to most of NE predict anywhere from 9 to 12 wins for the Patriots and the amount of shock after Sunday’s loss was hilarious. I think too many people saw the new coach, new system plus a young QB and just assumed it was a recipe for success like it was with Jayden Daniels Commanders last year.
I’m guessing that there was some of the same sentiment going on with Caleb Williams and his Bears this past offseason too. These young QBs are far from being a finished product and there will be plenty of growing pains along the way.
Regardless if this is true and he gets disciplined or not he is going to be a massive distraction to this team
He’s pretty much already been a pretty big distraction over this past year, add in how his stats dropped off significantly from 2023 to 2024 and I’d be surprised if Miami doesn’t decide to move on in the near future. Hopefully not to NE lol🤞

Looking at his contract, he’s got two more years after this one but Miami can walk away after this season ends with only 15M in dead money.
If he makes their 2026 roster he’ll have a 52M cap hit. I can’t see the Dolphins keeping a 32yr old WR around for that type of money on their books.

@perkdog Did I dream you made a post about Patriots fans mad about a week 1 lost after predicting a 9-12 win season? I can’t find it.
We both knew this was a work in progress. I fully believe in Drake Maye but the rest of the team has to learn how to win again. They are still 2 or 3 good drafts away. BB wasn’t a great judge of late round talent and it’s going to take a few years to stock up again. The Pats will finish 2nd in the East but the wildcards are coming out of the North and West.

I never predicted a 9 -12 win season, I said I expected them to be a little better than last year and would "Like" to see Maye progress, that's as far as I went with the Pats, I definately don't believe they would win that many games.
As far as being mad about the week 1 loss I don't think many Pats fans are angry I'd say a little disappointed, the only sorta negative thing I said was I was a little surprised that Vrabel wasn't a little more fired up on the sidelines
I agree with everything you said about the team as far as needing more talent from the next few drafts ect..

My comment about Pats fan predicting a great season then panicking after one game had nothing to do with you. I was just going off of what I’ve heard through the media over the past 48hrs including hundreds of comments over at Patspulpit.
So many people spent all summer gassing this team up only to freak when G1 didn’t look like they imagined it would.
I tuned into STR twice today in the car, first time they were making the case that Mac Jones was a better QB under McDaniels than Maye was. After ONE game lol. Then later Tom Curran was going on about how NE should have gone with JJ McCarthy over Maye in the draft.
No one has any patience any more, if it’s not instant gratification then obviously it’s all a total failure lol. With the amount of angry posts from Pats fans that I’ve read since that game ended, I can only surmise that the bookies made a killing on NE not winning at home.
Any number over 4 wins would be an improvement. 8 would match their win totals from the past two seasons combined. 9 would be a really good step in the right direction, anything higher than that would require literally everything going right for them which in all likelihood isn’t going to happen.

Because the quarterbacks are terrible - it's not like they had bad games - it's that they have piss poor Pro abilities.

A little early to say McCarthy has "piss poor ability". It was his first NFL game.
Ive been saying he was bad for years and he did nothing to change my mind. Michigan didnt trust him and he was bad against the Bears. He got lucky Caleb is also a bust and the Bears defense gave up in the 4th quarter. Even with that he was still bad.
Im okay sticking to those takes until they prove me wrong

Michigan trusted him enough to be their QB and win a National Championship. If this lack of trust continues and the Vikings can finally win a Super Bowl, I'll be OK with that.

Michigan started him, they didnt trust him. Theres a reason he threw 8 passes against PSU and 3 picks to Bowling Green. They took the ball out of his hands basically all season relying on their superior talent and defense
Any decent QB should be able to have success with the weapons the Vikings have including one of the 3 best WRs in the NFL. Nabers amd Chase are the only only that could be better than Jefferson and theres not really a definitive answer there. McCarthy was still trash

If Kevin Stefanski and his coaches don't get ahold of things and get the team past that ridiculous loss it could set up a terrible season. They dominated the Bengals on both sides of the ball yet lost because of the mental errors of three players. I've seen it happen before, as you said in a "different way" and it wrecked a season. ----- The 2nd game of the 2022 season saw the 1-0 Browns and up 30-17 with 1:55 left in the game, the kicker had just missed a PAT(sound familiar). Jets QB Joe Flacco(really, him) threw a 64 yard TD to a receiver 10 yards behind the DB's and after the successful onside kick the Jets won the game with another TD at the :22 mark.
The Browns never really recovered and finished at 7-10.

A little early to say McCarthy has "piss poor ability". It was his first NFL game.

His suspension is being considered served from the first game so he loses the paycheck but wouldnt miss anymore games

Every time I see these rankings I get flashbacks to these NFL QBs Facebook convos that would get posted every Monday. They were hilarious.

"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"

Agreed,, and yes I knew you were not directing anything at me
Joe was asking if I was mad and thought I was predicting all those wins.
I'm at the point where I cannot even watch pre game or listen to sports radio
Sunday I'm watching Fox NFL Sunday pre game and they actually were asking if the Chiefs week 2 game against Philly was "Must Win" I'm like STFU it's week2!
Sometimes things get lost in translation. Some Pats fans were predicting 9-12 wins. Not you. Those fans were disappointed from their showing on Sunday. I still have great expectations for Drake as I still think the Pats have found their QB. New coach, new system. All that takes time.

Sorry guys. I quoted the wrong poster.
@EricTheRed and @perkdog
The talking heads on these shows had 7 months of zero football and now that’s it’s back have to find something to say about everything, even must wins and lost seasons after week one. Honestly after the Super Bowl I didn’t read or listen to a thing until kickoff on Thursday night.

@Steven59 said: Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro defensive tackle Jalen Carter has been suspended one game for a spitting incident
As part of his stand-up routine in the early 1970's George Carlin remarked that in New York City: "Spitting on the sidewalk was a $50 fine, vomiting is free!!" He then segued into artificial dog crap.
@2dueces said: Cleveland is the only team that finds different ways to lose every year.

All good Joe!
They are all looking for clicks and air time by saying mind boggling stuff lol
