September Pickups...

I won this 1971 Roberto Clemente PSA-8.5 tonight on 4SC. I have always liked this card with Clemente looking down the barrel of his bat...and the Pirate uniform worn during the 1970s. Remember the Reds and Pirates battling for the National Pennant in 1970, 1972 (game #5 and Clemente’s last game) and 1975. This card has passed MBA Diamond Candidate test…

Very nice Bob! I had a lower grade OPC version for many years. Sold it a few years ago. Probably will regret log term, but yours is a great example!
Super stunning Clemente! That would be the prize of my collection right there.
Awesome Clemente. Incredible card.
Wow…stunner of a Clemente! Great registration, outstanding centering, clean borders and near perfect corners….great eye.
Sparkling Clemente! Great pick up Monte!
Boom!
A slightly less valuable 8.5 than the 71 Clemente.
Nice ‘68 Gibson!
Picked these up recently. Cards look much better in person compared to the photos I provided.
Yankees70...
Very nice pickups! Congrats...
Thank you Mintonlypls.
Question for you or any other poster - I have noticed that some posters black out the cert number when they post a photo of a card. What's the reason for that? Does it really matter if someone knows the cert number?
My first Sept pickup. This baby and I were born in the same year.

BaltimoreYankee...
Nice team card! I see Yogi in there...cannot locate the Mick, Roger or Whitey.
Thanks - It does seem the team cards from the 1970's were much easier to pick out players than in this card!
I won this card last night so I can add it to my Squinting MLB Managers With A Mouth Full Of Tobacco Juice collection.
Just arrived today

The coupon from a candy store places the gum at around 1949 or so.
I was happy to pick this up - comes with the original box to the seller - one thing I don't get? 1 piece for a penny and 5 pieces for a nickel? Why not "6" for a nickel so there's an incentive?
It's rare that I've ever seen a coupon from this item.
Very cool. I own one of these as well, complete with box and coupon. I had a second one but sold it, of course, and the take was $400 sometime in the late 90s. I'm certain these displays are much more valuable now.
Thanx. I picked this up on eBay for $361 - overall I was satisfied with the buy. Prices historically are all over the place. So, I agree; more valuable today.
Mike - that is a really neat piece!
I love those 68's posted above. so sharp!!
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
These recently popped for me so I thought I would share them here. The results were in line with expectations and I submitted them believing that the look of each card outshines the technical grade; I feel this is especially rue when a numeric grade is given on a hand cut card and it is always greatly appreciated:
Curious about the rare, mysterious and beautiful 1951 Wheaties Premium Photos?

the 1964 Mantle could be a 4 IMHO.
Picked up HOFer George McAfee for my Bears PC.
Thanx Keith - how did you enjoy the National? Whole family go?
Keith Jr and I went and while it is getting crowded and corporate we enjoy it every year. Picked up a Koufax rookie, 60 Mantle, Bench rookie, and a 56 Jackie. Still looking for a centered Jordan RC in 8/8.5 and an upgrade to add for my 56 Mantle.
Arriving tomorrow. Very excited. I was born in York and my dad watched him play for the York White Roses.
Love that card - nice pickup!
Best defensive 3rd baseman in MLB history….congrats!
The Brooks rookie is one of the best photos on a card of all time.
Nice one.
This arrived today. Another to fill in one of my obscure subsets . Its a Pop-1 which makes it all the better .
Love me some Rookie Cup dimes! Nice card.

Can't stay away from the shiny stuff and die-cuts. The first year of Skybox prototypes are tough in a high grade.
She's Creepy looking but not as creepy as in IRL
It's the singer not the song - Peter Townshend (1972)
now thats hilarious!!
I was very pleasantly surprised with this submission's results. Don't think there were any real grade A home runs possible. But some potential cool cards. With what I have seen with my stuff, even from SGC, and other people's stuff I had seen this as me hanging up my spurs with submitting any sports cards 1980 and earlier. Just thought I'd squeeze one last try in. I submitted 10 cards and got 3 10s and 3 9s I can appreciate. What kind of surprised me is even with good submissions, where I love the results, I often can guess wrong by 2 grades and get an 8 I thought could get a 10 or felt I had a 9 and could get a 7. But out of the 10, nothing lower than a 9. Did kind of feel there was a decent chance there would be no 10s in this batch. So very pleased with 3 10s and having them be reasonably low POP.
1984 Topps Doug Frobel shows as a POP 7. Not a super low POP but single digits and maybe because not too many people want a graded Doug Frobel card but still dig it. I used to open a lot of 84 Topps wax and rack when both could be opened for less than $100 and had not tried to submit any low POP commons til now. 84 Donruss totally loved that set and opened quite a bit many years ago when those boxes still felt expensive at $200 each. Nice to add this low POP card in Pat Tabler. I did get that new feature PSA offer of $139 for it but I'll keep it. 1980 Topps Baseball is probably my favorite set so any new 10s in that set are cool. This Bill Caudill is currently a POP 8 which feels low for that set. Had 4 other 1980 9s which don't feel bad, those more like a break even.
A couple more of the 1994 Topps Gold

For some reason I've had better luck with the 84 Donruss set getting higher grades. Maybe the white border. Maybe just a better print run. Not really sure.
I like the 84 set too even if there aren't any huge rookies. I just hate all those Active Leader cards. Those things are the worst. It's a fun year to rip though. I really like the Rickey card in 84.
