It’s Saturday Night, with a belly full of beer

CatbertCatbert Posts: 7,665 ✭✭✭✭✭

Well it Friday night, but what’s the difference? Just bought a coin out of the Stacks auction that was fueled by alcohol. Who’s done that before? :D

I can be dangerous in night time auctions much to the delight of the consignor.

I do it too often. Usually I get outbid, but some of my favorite “impulse purchases” have occurred this way. Of course 1/4 of the time I regret it and start planning an exit strategy in the morning, but I’ve bought some really great coins when I wasn’t afraid to press an extra bid or two.

What was the coin, and what was the beer? I’m partial to stouts, Seated Liberties, and British coins myself.

Good ol’ Mel McDaniel on a Louisiana Saturday Night…
“My brother Bert and my other brother Jack
Belly full of beer and an impulse buy from Stacks
15 coins in the computer light
    Booziana Friday night”

Or something like that. I hope you love it in the morning!

Inspired by @Catbert's buzzed bidding bonanza, I'm now enjoying one of the free beers I grab out of dumpsters at boat landings. Unfortunately, it's a Michelob Ultra, which is less filling than water.

I still have Seated Dollars that I do not remember bidding on 5 years ago. Thanks to Stacks and Whiskey!

I hope it wasn't the half dime restrike I wanted. Whatever it is, I hope you enjoy it.

You know Dan, I'm glad you still have taste when you're drinking beer!

So many bad things can happen otherwise.

Like starting to drink Bud Light Platinum or something.

I’ve done this many times! It’s a double rush!! I usually don’t regret it. ;) Based on your image I think you did the right thing! Enjoy (the beer and the coin)!!

I bought quite a bit in a Monday night HA auction sipping wine at 9000 feet after skiing all day and partaking in a happy hour. I was very happy with the coins I purchased but I wasn’t exactly thrilled with the prices I paid the next day.

The key is assemble your watchlist sober, and do your bidding with a good buzz. Some of my best coins were bought this way, "liquid courage" it's called.

I did get a little nutty on Saturday night and ended up buying this coin. I let it slip away 2 years ago at Stack's so I paid the idiot tax, presumably with @Catbert 's blessing.

I picked up an unplanned 4-figure Heritage coin last week with my low placeholder bid :# . No alcohol involved though! At least it’s something on my coin bucket list!
