Do you like the old small ANACS holders?

I do, that’s why this dealer’s table caught my eye at the monthly Melbourne show today.
And mostly all pre-1900 type and foreign coins. I said it was like going back 40 years.
He also had cases older NGC and PCGS as well.

Yes. I wish CAC would sticker.
Now that’s something. Neat. Hardly ever see them.
I preferred those "minimalist" holders. What happened to those, why did they get rid of such a popular holder?
Pre Bar Codes are cool. They are like playing with dominos.
You mean the old soap bars?.... YES!

I especially like the ones without the barcode.
So sleak and minimal.
(Sweet collection! I see one, three rows down, six over from the left I haven't viewed before.)

NO!
I love them. My absolute favorite slab.

Can get more stock in the display case due to the size.
Looks like someone's fantastic collection.

Never seen that many before, way cool
I love them. Best holder ever IMO.
I recently chatted with a few dealers at a coin show, and they both said there was a huge following for nice coins in the soap bar holders.
Dave
Absolutely, YES! I liked them because I could still fit the slab into a 2x2 box with the lid left off (or set the box in the lid). I felt it was convenient because I could use the slabbed coins as "bookmarkers" for the coins in 2x2's and I didn't need a larger box to hold them. I haven't tried crossing any old soapbox ANACS holders but my experience in comparing some of the material I typically collect (Early Copper) with how the EAC auction card reads is that ANACS coins were typically 5-10 points over... again, not sure how this would translate into current PCGS standards for early copper, but PCGS seems to have gotten pretty picky in this venue as I'm sure you know...
Here's an old soapbox 1855 Upright 5's ANACS-35 that Bob Grellman had at VF30...

Every US coin will fit in the small ANACS slab with the exception of the very expensive $50 gold slugs and the huge five-ounce silver America the Beautiful coins commonly called pucks which have always required an oversized slab. The only problem with a smaller slab is there may not be enough room for all the stickers.

I figured out who he was, and he recognized me, after a bit. He hadn’t set up for over 10 years, he said, and I can believe it. Almost all of his PCGS and NGC slabs were without prongs.
A lot of pretty cool coins, mostly seated and bust, and a sprinkling of better date Morgans, like three ‘93Ss. No CAC stickers or new holders. He also said he had quite a few more, but didn’t have enough cases, but said he’d bring them to the show in September.
The only problem was, and I heard the same gripe around the floor about him, was that he was pricing everything at CoinFacts prices, or higher. Granted at FUN this was kind of the norm, but these guys are used to getting coins at Bid or lower. He wasn’t offering the dealers any more breaks than the rest of us.
They would probably triple their business if they brought back the soap bar.

@PerryHall - Soap bar or soap box?
Disclaimer: I'm not a dealer, trader, grader, investor or professional numismatist. I'm just a hobbyist. (To protect me but mostly you! 🤣 )
like a Hotel bar of soap I'm guessing. I have heard the old NGC pre bar code slabs called as such too. ?
Love them, completely. My favorite slab by a huge majority. I can imagine an alternative universe where ANACS still used the old white holders and CAC stickered them, paradise.
I currently collect them only with an Ike $ set but in my alternative universe scenario all my coins would be in them.
ps. @OAKSTAR , my virtually worthless 2¢, I've heard both box and bar. I prefer bar at the moment but I wish OWH (old white holder) could be the new moniker.
The current favorite from my ANACS OWH Ike set...
I usually just call them "small ANACS slab" but by using either name, coin people know what you are referring to.

I like ‘em. Except they don’t fit very well in any of my boxes.
Smitten with DBLCs.
I don't much care for them. They're the proverbial black sheep of slab holders imo.

Love love love my soap bars, everything about them. Minimalist, simple, clean, any bigger is a waste of plastic and space. I even find they are often undergraded compared w/ newer stuff. Look at my Fugio, they gave that a 20? That's a 40 all day long in any new slab, at least I like to think so.
@TimNH - This one is under-graded exactly where I want it. I bought the slab, not the coin. 🤣 😉

I’ve not done a rigorous analysis….but seems tome these soap bar holders also contain really high quality coins.

Where do you get those? I said above I love everything about my soap bars, but the one thing I do not love is they flap around in my boxes.
The size was chosen so that they will fit the standard cardboard boxes for 2"X2" flips or 2"X2" cardboard staple holders.

Keep in mind that back in the day (early to mid 1990s), ANACs was the only TPG that recognized and labeled various varieties.

They are my favorite slabs...a higher coin to plastic ration and to me just feel right in hand.

Back when I had probably 40 of the soap bar slabs I purchased an Eagle ANACs 21 holder box since I also didn't like how they sat in the PCGS and NGC boxes. Unfortunately a rubber band melted on the box.

My memory is not good enough; but I have small foam rectangles that I use to store my Small Anac holders in the pages of my Eagle Brand Slab albums. I see the name Eagle on the lid of that box. Perhaps they offer those foam spacers seperately. James
Yes, I use those as well:
