Who won stuff from Teddy’s collection tonight?

ad4400ad4400 Posts: 2,161 ✭✭✭✭✭

Some great looking pieces on GC tonight from one of our board members. Some pretty stong results and some nice looking pieces I was able to win the one coin I bid on. Post your winnings!

Wow, looks like he's selling everything!!
We used to be pretty good friends, but once he quit collecting we kind of lost touch - hopefully he's still doing OK.
Some of these coins I used to own or have seen first hand submitting them for PCGS, he had some pretty nice stuff.

I could go look it up, but I'm lazy... what was the closing price?

I got this PR64 from when he had a sale in January 2023 via GC.
I have a really nicely toned proof 1962 nickel, quarter, and half. I just need a cent and dime to complete the toned proof set.

Stunning!! 🤩 😍 Tremendously nice color!!

Thanks, I enjoy it. Here's the nickel and quarter for 1962...not easy finding a suitable cent and dime for the project.

Nice win…I was watching that one. It’s not often I find a Peace dollar with attractive color but that one is fantastic.

Appreciate it! I don’t see Peace dollars with this color become available too often.

There were 2 coins I was after and I got blown away on the other one, but definitely fired up to be adding this one to my collection.

I was resoundingly trounced on the 36-p merc dime even with $200+ bid.

On the upside my one winning from last week showed up and it’s even nicer in hand.

I had been watching the 46-s WLH but it got too rich before I put in bid. Ironically my WLH in my type set came from one of Teddys eBay sales a few years back

I also was "viciously" sniped for two higher priced coins, inlcuding a 1939 Lincoln with text toning and a gorgeous bulls-eye toned 1966 Washinton quarter! Anyone willing to confess? ;)

That has to be the wildest toning on a quarter I have seen. It does not even look real on the back - amazing.

You may want to make a correction to the post; your Roosevelt dime was not from Teddy's collection. It was one of the coins I had in GC.

I think I was the under bidder on the 1964 Rosie @lablover (this one of the three was my choice)

The search continues for nicely toned example!

@lablover Indeed -- my error! The Lincoln and the Kennedy were from Teddy's not the Roosie which was evidently yours. Very happy to have won the Rooise as well with @catbert hot on my trail. ;)
It sure was "toner chaos" Sunday evening!

That is a great description. A lot of items went much higher than expected, especially when I consider the previous weeks results were i snagged a couple much cheaper than I expected.

Congrats on winning the coin. It's even better in-hand than the image. It, along with the others had been sitting in an album I began 25+ years ago. Hope you enjoy...

Oh, if you'd like another image of the coin this is one robec (Bob Campbell) did for me.

Is there some search I can make on Great Collections to find this collection being auctioned? Does GC auction off a large collection or special collections separately from smaller consignments?

It was listed with a name and it should now be in the archives since the sale concluded. GC does give names to some bigger consignments. If someone sends in only a few coins, then there usually won’t be a collection name.

Thanks! I'll hunt down some of these dates in GC's cool archives. These are some very nice colorful coins.

this sale of mine i insisted as my proof sale back in 2023 i couldn't get them to do " great photos "

    of note
phil arnold is now in great collections doing imaging

    of note

all coins have trueview + great photo

all coins never were sent to CAC and surely most would get approval i'd think

i never sent coins in for grade upgrade as it was a chore to get straight grades on alot of these
as pcgs was/is super tough on toned coins

    persistence was the key e.g.
the 65 kennedy ms64+ took 5 tries for straight grade
1919 lincoln ms63rb took 4 tries...i chuckled as onetime it was "rd"
the 37-s buffalo in ms64 took 4 tries
personally the fight with pcgs was worth it if the coins were
and alot of my toners were worth the fight

Great perspective. And thanks for the information!

Your passion for toners was easily evident through the coins in your consignment. Congrats again!
