“Needed” this for my “box of 100”. Moving away from series collecting, to more of just a “cool coin, gotta have it” approach. As I get older, it seems to just make more sense. It’s funny, I’ve never been a large cent collector, but in my top 5 favorite coins in my collection, I think 3 of them are large cents. Anyway, I needed a classic head cent, and this came up… beautiful gloss, very few ticks, and a nice mottled chocolate appearance. Liking it a lot.
This now accounts for nine of the fifteen issues for the year, as I already have the Lincoln Cents and Winged Liberty Head Dimes, MS 66 RD for the former and MS 66 FB for the later, except for the 1944 P dime which is a straight MS66.
@Copperindian that is a beast of a coin! Especially with CAC!

Yep….weakness all over the right side (both obverse and reverse) of the coin is typical for this issue. Pretty sure this is going to be a weak 1858/7. Not bad for just over $100. Looks AU details to me, maybe XF.
Pocket change.
In hand I came across this dime's date's image showing a clear 4 under (2) 018. It just jumped out at me without a glass. Using a micro camera, for a better view, brought out some other questions of the photo's image. Mainly the number 4 over a half broken number 2 in a perfect combo.
Using a 1984 dated dime's number 4, I fooled around with (one photo only), what could be, an under strike in the exact position. (?) In hand ? It's a 4018.
The coin shows a greenish woody effect, although, not in a delicate fashion.
Please don't clutter this thread with any nonsense you may feel is warranted. You will get a chance.
@MEJ7070 , nice half dime for your type set sir. I'm raw dogging my attribution here as I don't have my book handy where I'm at right now but I believe your coin is the LM6 die marriage. I want to say the LM book rates that as an R5 rarity but the most recent JRCS half dime census has downgraded it to an R4. Others can chime in and correct me if I'm getting any of that wrong. Any way you cut it, sweet coin man. Nice eye appeal factor to it as well.

Thanks very much! I purchased it online believing it to be an LM6 as well, but for states and marriages aren’t strong areas of expertise for me tbh. The determining factor in buying this coin was the color/eye appeal. I’m not in the habit of making many raw coin purchases on eBay, but was happy to “take a shot” on this one!
I bought an original cardboard case for my 1937 matte set. It's all in PCGS plastic, but I can Photoshop the coin pics into it so I can enjoy its original presentation.

Honestly, this is a coin I would never buy unless I “had to” for the 7070 set. Now that I have it in hand it is easy to appreciate having it in my collection. The only bicentennial Kennedy I’ll ever own:
I have most of the American Silver Eagles in their original government packaging, yet I did not have this one:
I still have a few more, those being the usual suspects, the 1995-W Proof, three of the five issues from the 25th Anniversary Set in 2011 (I will look for the original set) and the 2020 privy mark issue V75. Even without any of the bullion issues, that is still more than seventy coins.
After doing some research, it has been determined this is likely the only mint state 1879-CC Capped Die remaining in a rattler holder. Paid $25K to pry it from the prior owners hands knowing I need it to compete the full set of CAC Morgan’s in rattler. Now down to 14 coins left to finish the entire set with varieties as reported by PCGS in the October issue of 1989 report.

He said he had "to pry it from the prior owners hands". I'm guessing the injury occurred when the prior owner didn't want to give it up.

Installed a fireplace in March of 2024 and fell through the attic while checking the last screw on the cold pipe that vents outside. Stepped off the boards to check the screw, and I slipped off the joist. As I fell through the ceiling, I reached to grab “anything” and ended up grabbing the aluminum plumbers strap that was holding the vent pipes.
Unfortunately the ER doctor couldn’t make it in that day and scheduled me out six days. All tendons severed. Operated on and five months later fingers not working. Wife went with me to talk with him and he says “I have to be honest with you folks, I’m a knee and hip doctor. You should have gone to a hand specialist.” Apparently while trying to fix my hand he cut a flexor tendon, pinned a joint that shouldn’t have been pinned and didn’t pin one that should have been. Found a specialist and I’m four surgeries in. Last surgery scheduled for October to transfer a tendon from my wrist to my pinky. None of my DIP joints will work again. My middle finger has a screw in it etc etc.
Best part is, I had to argue for months to go back into the attic to get my tools down but I have them now.
Huge mistake that day but good lesson that mistakes do have a cost to them.
I won’t post a photo because it will ruin the thread but it’s not pretty for sure.
It's going to be one of my gifts to my youngest brother at their wedding in a couple weeks.

The Washington Quarters from 1944:

1913-D PCGS MS65+ (only 15 higher, all in MS66) -- very underrated in gem.

Buying these two. the 1461 is really nice.

That is a “wow!” coin in my book. Really nice…
1924, the most common Saint .... but not in PCGS MS67, only 153 with 12 finer (11 in 67+ and 1 in 68+)
Also with CAC Gold!
