Ex-Wife Selling Some Coins
Went through an unfortunate divorce in 2023/24 where, amongst many other things, I lost 75% of my coin collection. It would appear the ex-wife is selling and/or has sold some of the collection she was awarded as I stumbled across this coin from my collection being auctioned on eBay today. It's a nice eye appealing coin if any of you were thinking about it. Must admit it's kind of weird seeing it again and for sale. Should I buy it back? That would be weird right? Good times...

The seller doesn't have very much feedback for a shop that's been around since 1979. That's a little odd.1 -

The mere thought of marriage without a prenup makes me shudder…
I liken it to being in a boxing ring, as you must protect yourself at all times.
Life is hard enough without having to deal with that type of crap.
Sorry that you’re going through it and ‘no’ it wouldn’t be weird if you like the coin and you want it back. :'(

It's a nice coin, if you like the coin and the price the maybe buy it. If you don't you'll probably regret it.

Hmm, I am still mad about the coins my ex-wife STOLE and whose return was in the divorce decree. Never happened and lost a couple of irreplaceables. One has gone from about 3600 to over 30k! Damn! This post reminded me.

How awful!! 😣 I made quite a few purchases around or just after 2020 that have literally doubled during that short period. And of course, gold has really taken off!! 👍

When I got married, we had no assets and a great deal of school debt. When she finally finished school, I went back to school, borrowing more money.
The last thing on our minds was "dividing the assets," since diplomas don't divide well, and we had no other assets.
47 years later, we're still hopelessly in love, so it didn't matter. And we even paid off all that school debt!

I have an older brother who is going through recovery from mouth cancer in the last couple years, the wife divorced him without cause and he didn't fight for his legal and economic rights "trusting" her to pay him what was fair, now he is in a predicament understandably.
I was in a coin shop a few years ago where the dealer was saying he was going through a divorce and the opposing lawyer did not understand numismatics and their potential high values and he was trying to do all the transactions in cash which struck me as sleazy.
Clearly people collect for many reasons, aesthetics, the pride of ownership, investment purposes, etc.. It is quite unfortunate when people sell what you have collected with an eye to quality without appreciating the hobby.

I feel your pain... sort of. My divorce was finalized about 4 years ago. Before that, I was in a bit of a selling mode myself to scrape up enough cash for deposits on a rental unit , utilities, etc. (in MD you have to be physically separated for at least one year before you can file). Fast forward to now... I'm completely out of debt (ex and I split ~$32k in debt... mostly credit card debt), I'm paying my own mortgage, and I'm looking for the last few coins for several sets...
...there's a Light at the end of the tunnel and, sometimes, it's NOT an oncoming train! Best of luck!

I was temporarily out of the hobby during my divorce. I only had a few legacy coins from my father that fortunately my ex-wife wasn't interested in.

I am so glad I do not need any spice of the sorts and just live in peace. I learned at a young age the odds are stacked against most of us.

True... the odds are a longshot. But, even some lucky person manages to hit The Lottery every few weeks and the odds there are something like 300,000,000:1... Perhaps, like most things in Life, it's all about the timing. I started dating my current GF through "Match" after a 30 yr failed marriage. Long story, short... we knew each other from over 10 years ago when my daughter was in ballet. She was one of the other dance teachers at my daughters studio. We're older in life, have many of the same interests and goals, and are each "established" in our own right. We're currently experiencing a bit of "economic turbulence" and she'll be selling her home and moving in with me in the short term. Then, we'll be searching for our "retirement home" together. Sometimes Life has a way of working out...

Sometimes it does work out (I wish it did more often) I personally have just decided I had enough a long time ago and moved on from that need/want in life. It did not work out for me (multiple girlfriends over years/decades) and I am fine with that (I am not angry nor am I mad. I just had enough). I never found happiness or peace in that area of life (mostly drama and problems) and simply understood it is better just to move on to other things that do make me happy and at peace.

I'm glad you survived the whole thing, some don't. A regular at the local flea market bragged about getting a big collection from an apparent gold-digging wife who brought the collectibles down, six figures, after the "elderly diabetic" died. Happens more often than you'd think.

Whenever considering making a purchase, leave your ego at the door and decide if you like the item at the price offered, or not.
My most expensive coin has a pedigree to someone whom I, to put it politely, find very distasteful. But the coin is all there for the grade, was priced reasonably, and took me eight years to find, and that's with some help. Think about it.

She sold it to me, never left any feedback (Better than a negative) send me the item nicely packaged and then proceeded to block my account from any further activity. It's been 15yrs and still blocked! LOL
