The coin is remarkably free of stains, dings, marks, hits, toning, discoloration or anything else that one would expect to see on a circulation strike coin minted 61 years ago. I can only assume it has spent most of its life out of circulation and only recently swam in that pool.
I may keep it, or I may spend it so it can continue its journey.
Nice find. Thanks for making me feel old.
I remember back in 1964, when I was 10, the types of change finds I ran across in my father's change. Silver, Indian Cents, Buffalo and Lib nickels, the occasional merc and walker. My have times changed.

Nice find.
My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
OMG I think I see like 7 errors and you will be so rich!
Maybe, just maybe this cent is a new discovery coin (a 1964 D SPECIAL, Special Mint Set cent).
I will sell it to the first person who PM's me with an offer of $10,000.00.
it's special to you so it must be a sms penny!
In the year that this penny was struck, a 61-year-old penny (dated 1903) was long gone from circulation.
My Adolph A. Weinman signature

Chinese knock-off.
What?
Interesting. Not a great value but fun to find in the wild.

You never know what you'll find. In 2007, I got a 1953 S Lincoln Cent in what would be MS 65 RD.
"Seu cabra da peste,
"Sou Mangueira......."
live near a coin shop?
I do, but I don't trust the people who run it. That coin would cost more to grade than it would be worth.
"Seu cabra da peste,
"Sou Mangueira......."
i'm just wondering if it is a coin shop reject you found
old man lincoln Looking good!
I am so old that I remember when those came out.
It’s a doubled Lincoln cent😎 error. 1 on the obv and 1 on the rev
Lafayette Grading Set
I have a bunch of rolls of unc Lincolns from the late 50s and early 60s I should probably feed into circulation (from my Dad)
I got this from the poker machine payout machine at the gas station
around Christmas. It's redder than the picture.
Fun to find shiny old cents.
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
Seriously
Yes.
Compared to what one usually finds on AU-MS cents found in pocket change.
No.
Compared to Gem plus MS cents that have never been in circulation.
I realize that, I was just busting your chops because hearing that come from you, someone who collects almost perfect proofs. Very nice ones indeed.
I cannot believe that nobody mentioned the fact that you snared one with the very rare and elusive "L on the Rim" error.
Full steps?
need a better picture to tell if it is full steps
