Maybe, just maybe this cent is a new discovery coin (a 1964 D SPECIAL, Special Mint Set cent). :)

I will sell it to the first person who PM's me with an offer of $10,000.00. >:)

In the year that this penny was struck, a 61-year-old penny (dated 1903) was long gone from circulation.

Interesting. Not a great value but fun to find in the wild.

The coin is remarkably free of stains, dings, marks, hits, toning, discoloration or anything else that one would expect to see on a circulation strike coin minted 61 years ago. I can only assume it has spent most of its life out of circulation and only recently swam in that pool.

I may keep it, or I may spend it so it can continue its journey.

You never know what you'll find. In 2007, I got a 1953 S Lincoln Cent in what would be MS 65 RD.

    live near a coin shop?

I do, but I don't trust the people who run it. That coin would cost more to grade than it would be worth.

I have a bunch of rolls of unc Lincolns from the late 50s and early 60s I should probably feed into circulation (from my Dad)

    Yes.

Compared to what one usually finds on AU-MS cents found in pocket change.

    No.

Compared to Gem plus MS cents that have never been in circulation.

I cannot believe that nobody mentioned the fact that you snared one with the very rare and elusive "L on the Rim" error.

    Full steps?

need a better picture to tell if it is full steps

Nice find. Thanks for making me feel old.
I remember back in 1964, when I was 10, the types of change finds I ran across in my father's change. Silver, Indian Cents, Buffalo and Lib nickels, the occasional merc and walker. My have times changed.
