I Just Purchased My First Top Pop.

jfriedm56jfriedm56 Posts: 2,978 ✭✭✭✭✭

So this being my first local show to attend in the last three months, I was expecting some new material from two brothers who are dealers from the Pittsburgh area. I live in New York State and these guys make the trip monthly to New York. A 1921-S Lincoln cent caught my eye and so after some back and forth negotiating, we worked out a number we all felt comfortable with. Mostly me, cause I was the one laying out the money. So this 1921-S Lincoln cent in MS 66RB is the highest graded coin for that date and MM. There are no other 66’s graded in the other two color categories and this coin is CAC’d to boot. I was so fortunate to be able to purchase this coin as it will now be the cornerstone of my Lincoln cent collection. Thank to all who looked and I hope you enjoyed seeing it as much as I do. My first 1/0 Top Pop. Thanks Zack.

just be aware of the price differences between a 65RD CAC and a 66RB CAC . RD is highly sought after

now that it's out of the way: it's a stunner in a difficult date+mm!

    Sweet coin. Congratulations.

    Doesn’t that mean a R/B will turn “BROWN” ?

While that may be true, there are presently 0 66 CAC’d RD so this has the status of being the highest graded 1 of 1.

Hi Zack - great pickup; so nice! That’s a tough date even for those early S mints. Big bonus to get a pop 1/0 & with a full strike! A BIG CONGRATS!

@Copperindian, thanks so much Ken. After doing some research during the show, and finding out all I could about it, it just spoke my name and I knew I would be its new owner. I only had to find the price I could live with, with no regrets and I did.

1921 is my favorite date in all of numismatics. You did wonderfully in acquiring this special cent.
Do not reholder that coin as keeping this cent in this older PCGS blue holder is a testament to its color stability.

RD should be okay if it's in an older holder, like an OGH. Otherwise, I agree with the above.
