This coin belongs to a friend, we wanted to get an opinion overall of everyone’s opinion of the eye appeal… What do you guys think of the look of this coin?

don't like the obverse look
It’s better than if it was cleaned.

Okay… could be better and much worse. For a VF30 grade, On scale of 1 to 10 with 10 highest, I would be be in 5 to 5.5 range, without an in hand look.
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
Crusty, I like that....
Not a fan, nicer than my raw example in my album, but I'm not a fan of my coin either so there is that.

Eye Appeal..
Obverse 6.25
Reverse 9.5
there are better looking 1879CC’s out there for sure
30+ years coin shop experience (ret.) Coins, bullion, currency, scrap & interesting folks. Loved every minute!
For this coin the closest I can get to what I am thinking is that I would like to like it, but I don't.

I like it more than most. Not a perfect look on the obverse but it's free from any distracting marks. Tougher for lower grade coins.
If you randomly put 100 similar coins in front of me, it would probably be in the top
20.
If no other choices, and needing/wanting it, I could accept it, but I'm not a fan of the obverse. For that grade, I do like the reverse.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
So many coins of that era have been dipped, cleaned, etc. This example is exactly what a pocket carried, commerce used dollar looked like when it was circulating. Very nice example in my eyes. And,, yes I am old enough to remember carrying these in my pocket in Carson City. It's a really nice keeper in my mind.

I appreciate all of your responses! I similarly agree, the reverse is really nice, but the front leaves a little to be desired. Overall, I like it, but a friend brought it by and was just wanting an opinion.
Thanks everybody!

I like this coin very much.,and would have it in my collection in a heart beat.
Makes me wonder how many Saloons and Poker tables it saw
I think it's a nice looking, wholesome circulated example.
A fabulous example of how silly it is to reflexively condemn all "cleaned" coins to oblivion, while giving an unattractive coin like this one the CAC seal of approval.
To each his own....
It's OK. Original, but not attractive.

Obverse eye appeal not great, although original, and better then a dipped white VF. The VF30 grade is accurate from wear, no large bagmarks and rims are solid, but I would not jump to buy. I like circulation dirt but obverse is too dark for me, at least in photos.
It ok
It’s not a coin I’d like to have in my collection.
I like it. Nice circulated key date coin. Not cleaned or played with,

Eye appeal is going to be subjective. I myself am not a fan of mint state coins at all. Sure, I can appreciate the rarity of some coins in mint state, and the care that was given to them to protect them all those years, but my personal preference is for coins that have seen circulation and commerce. The one pictured in this thread looks fine to me.

Those coins were beat up a lot; I'd trust cac any day of the week vs. people who want to be overly critical. What more do you want in a 1879-cc in VF30? You'll find some that are lacking in originality with less marks. There are a lot of trade-offs in this field.
Not for me.
Just remember that most of the commenters here have never ever carried Morgan/Peace dollars in their pockets, nor used on in everyday business.
I have and I completely understand that look.. It's absolutely a normal circulated, unmolested Dollar and a cherished one at that as the date/mm is not common.

It's an okay look for a VF-30. Things are hit and miss in that grade. The coin is original and okay. You may or may not like it.
It's a generic original coin.

"Sou Mangueira......."
I think it actually has been cleaned but in a market acceptable manner. It looks just OK to me.

When I look at the Morgan and see the revenants of dirt around the stars I immediately believe it to be cleaned and retoned
Not always. Heavy dirt/circulation stains can wear off with progressive circulation usage around the center device and fields. Whatever is covering the area by the stars to rim will get protected and remain. That coin had a rough life. Maybe belonged to a miner or farmer and exposed to constant elements.
A supercrustbomb! I like it. Definitely NOT a "CAC Hall of Shame" candidate.
It's a nice looking circulated example.
imho, well graded too.
It would be better without the red marker all over it.
I like it. What kind of eye appeal is anyone looking for in a VF30?
overall I like it. The Obverse draws my eye - the Reverse has some distractions, especially the marks along the letters, I like the wings for a circulated Morgan..
Fewer black blotches. I wished the obverse looked like the reverse in that respect.

I have doubts CAC would have put a sticker on a cleaned coin...
In my collection, this coin would only serve to remind me that I was not patient enough to wait for a specimen with original, uniformly-medium silver surfaces that most would call "perfect for the grade". If such specimens did not exist, I probably wouldn't collect. But I am delighted that there are collectors who think differently and would be very happy with that 79-CC.

Although accurately graded, as John noted above, less black blotches would be preferred on the obverse. Not to derail post, but here is mine bought raw at a coin show. Although more wear and probably a VF25 at best, the eye appeal is better with some luster still present.
